Fast blinker out of nowhere

I was on my way home tonight and just turning into my subdivision when my left blinker started wigging out and going fast. I've had this issue before and knew that it was due to a bad/out bulb, so when I got home I checked them all.

Everything works... it's just fast.

Here's the clue though, I think. I've got a set of Hella LED tails and just recently put on a set of RECON Big Rig Ice running lights with the blinker function. The tails have been installed for a couple of months, and the RECONS just over two weeks. Up until tonight, I haven't had any issues, then I go to turn a corner and get fast blinker... this is after driving 60 or so miles on the interstate using the blinkers to change lanes with no problem.

My very uneducated guess is that the resistor (or load balancer, whatever you call it) built into the Hella tail on the left side just up and quit on me, but I have no idea if that could cause this because that light still blinks and looks fine... just fast. The right side of the truck, with the exact same setup, blinks normal.

Anyone ever had something like this?

I'm considering getting LED tail bulbs from V-LED to help with light output due to my nightshaded tails. I understand you need a resistor to keep the lights from hyperflashing once the turnsignal is engaged. But how do these resistors work? Where do you put them/plug them into??

You can:

A.) splice the resistor into your tails. One side splices into the turn wire and the other side splices into ground.

or

B.) Get an LED blinker relay. AdvancedAuto carries them for $11.99

That's what I'm doing. Ordered mine last night. I figure that way if the other resistor on the other LED Tail goes out I won't even notice. I can also add LEDs to the blinkers in the front now without having an issue. From what I've read it's just a simple swap... find the relay under the dash near the steering column and swap 'em out. Then no matter what combination of leds and regular bulbs you have you'll blink at the right rate.

At least I hope that's the case.

Yep. Just turn your key to "ON" and hit the blinker. You can feel around for it, mine was under a cover that had tape wrapped around it. Pay attention to the way it is aligned, since you can't see the top, align it before you put the new one in

The electronic flasher swap is easy. Did you get the Tridon EP-27 from Advance? It fixes hyperflashing when you replace rear turns with leds, front turns or both. Once you replace the flasher, you'll be set up if you get switchbacks or something for your fronts.
The flasher location is by the angled metal plate right under the steering wheel

The Tridon is a good unit. I don't like the audible "click" but still fixes the blinking issue

That's what I have (Tridon EP27), fixed hyper flash. But I have had issues with the current bleeding over into other circuits. It's a rare problem but I'm just lucky like that I guess. V-Leds helped me with my problems, their tech dept is great and had a quick response to all my questions.

Haha. You're lucky like that and I'm lucky that my Tridon doesn't "click" like it does for a lot of other people.

No, I didn't get it from Advance, though I would've had I waited to order. I did a little research, but I wasn't really sure what I was looking for so I found a thread about this on another forum and got what they suggested from eBay.

Pretty sure it'll work the same though.

That looks like it should work. It says EP27 on it too. Let us know if it works.

Yeah, rub it in man.

Mine doesn't click nearly as much as it used to which makes no sense whatsoever. It seems like when my truck is really cold it doesn't do it at all. Oh well, at least I'm not pulling my hair out because of it now.

eh, thats the same one I bought from superbrightleds.com, and it crapped out on me in a couple months. I couldn't find my receipt so I didn't bother arguing with them, I went to Advanced
