Never seen it done but its very possible and should give you that exact look, but, niteshades goes have a little hue of green in it.

Why not just use black spray paint? Theres no light shining threw on your emblem so niteshades would be a waste of money IMO.

He's looking for a translucent solution that will allow for the "shine" of the chrome to show through.

OP: You might want to try a hobby shop for some translucent model paint, but I'd be concerned about how it will adhere to the chrome finish. Not much sticks to it well.

I know what hes going for but dont see how its possible. It will just look like he attempted to paint them but ran out. one coat will look splotchy and 2 -3 coats will turn it completely black

Yes thats what I was thinking, and you would have to scuff up the chrome I guess. Oh well worth a shot. Wonder if you could use some vinyl tint maybe??

I did mine on the Tail gate, it has been about a year and they are peeling now, I did 3 coats to black them, I found that in the sun they looked kinda purple, and yes you can see the Ford word through it with lights shining on it.
I would not recommend this though, It just doesn't look that great, and to only do one or two coats it would have very bad orange peel look to it.
I am going to do them in Flat black to match the side and handles. Maybe even flame up the oval on rear to.

I have used the Metal cast paint before, and it will stick to scuffed chrome, and looks good, I did a set of trim rings in blue, looks exactly like anodized metal. And it is translucent, and you will be able to see the ford sign through it.
