simple question on LT door handles

I installed the LT handles with driver door keypad. My truck was not originally equiped with this feature althought the harness was in the door so i plugged the handle in. Is taking the truck to ford to have the computer reconize the handle the only way to make this handle work? BTW i have the code for the door that came witht the truck.

Truck is a 2004 newer body style with keyless entry.

On my 06 I just plugged mine in and it worked. My truck didn't have the key pad until I installed the Mark LT handles. It may be different on an 04??But my 06 recognized the keypad as soon as I plugged it in.

i have read a lot on this but i hope i can get a straight forward answer. I know its hit or miss if it works right away or not, im just not clear on what to do if it doesnt work. Just to clarify it does not light up when i press the buttons or lock when i press the last two buttons.

I just checked power to the handle- 0v The weird thing is when i unplug one of the plugs to the VSM i get 12v at the handle but it still does not light up. If anyone has a PDF with some more troubleshooting info that would be awesome. I would jst take the truck to the dealer but the dealership close to me is terrorable and have been absolutely no help in the past.
