This thread has two things going on. The shark fin is a satellite antenna. Those stubby antennas are for regular radio reception.

I'm under the impression that he wants to replace his radio antenna with the shark fun antenna.

Maybe, but it won't work. Two entirely different technologies.

the reception seems to be the same when i've listened to the radio in the past, but i use my ipod all the time so reception isnt a top priority.

Shark Fin

I believe those shark fin antennas are for GPS for the navigation systems, sat radio like XM, and cell phone like on-star. They will not do normal am/fm radio. Those chebbies sometimes have two of them on the leading edge when they are equipped with on-star, GPS nav, and XM. You can shorten your regular ama/fm antenna or go to a windshield mounted one. Some cars have them in the windshield or back glass. I think I have seen some stick on types for glass mount.

BINGO
Correct on all accounts.
IF you dont want the whip antenna go with a good quality window mount unit.
They do just as good if not better than the whippers and are almost invisible.

Oh and shave the original front mount!

Not to thread jack or anything, but where could I find something like this?
This would help when I shave the mount.
Thanks guys!
