Running boards or NO, that is the question
I know everybody likes WESTIN products, but my boards are black and the paint failed miserably with 24 months.........
appearance wise, it looks better WITHOUT!
I would recommend keeping the running boards. For what has been said, paint protection, helping with access for guests, and increased resale value... With my Bushwacker Pocket Flares my side protection is fantastic... As with everything it's a personal choice...

Summer protection...

Winter protection...

Yuck, ditch them. That is one of the first things I did when I got my truck. My wife begged me not to because she thought it would be harder to get in (She is only 5'4"). She was surprised when it was actually easier to get in without the steps. It was especially easier for me, 6' with size 12 boots, I always hit my shins and feet on them. With them on there you have to stand further away from the truck to step into it, unless you are actually using the step. But who really uses them unless you have 6"+ of lift?
Please keep them? I have a great big ding right on the body line that I'm really sure you would prefer not to have.
besides I think they look nice - especially the ones you have on there... I am purchasing a pair of those within the week actually. for most of the already mentioned reasons

Ya' know, it's funny.... I think any 4wd drive truck (or a wannabee 4wd drive like mine
) actually look better with running boards anyway. I strongly prefer the round pipe style though.
Then, not to mention the functionality of them. I hadn't much thought of protection from door dings, but that's a great thing too.
Anyway, street trucks with flat style and / or chrome step bars, no. Lifted and / or 4wd drive trucks that are supposed to look "Ford tough", absolutely, positively yes.
Peace,
Fish
PS, A buddy of mine (with a Dodge Ram... poor guy
got hit in an intersection, by a lady running the red light. I mean, not REAL hard... but hard enough to destroy the hood, grille, one light, and one fender, on her little Honda. My buddies step bar got bent in, but didn't quite make it to the truck. A cheap fix. Of course the ladies insurance had to pay for that anyway.
