I looked up the code and everything and its illegal. I wanted to get blue parking lights too with cleared lenses. Haha little to my knowledge thats illegal too, but what isnt these days?
I hope your wrong about SA. The way I understand the law, you have to be able to see brake lights and reflectors from 300 feet away. I think mine does that. Just in case I am installing a Recon White Lightning tailgate light bar.

20.27 Tail Lamp. Every motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, pole trailer, and any other vehicle which is being drawn at the end of a combination of vehicles shall be equipped with at least two taillamps mounted on the rear which, when lighted, shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of 1,000 feet to the rear, except that passenger cars and trucks manufactured or assembled prior to the model year 1960 shall have at least one tail lamp. On vehicles equipped with more than one tail lamp, the taillamps shall be mounted on the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable.

Every tail lamp upon every vehicle shall be located at a height of not more than 72 inches nor less than 15 inches. Taillamps are used only to designate the rear of a vehicle.

Every tail lamp upon motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, or mopeds shall be located at a height of not more than 72 inches nor less than 20 inches. Tail lamp lens must be of a type meeting Department of Public Safety standards.

At least two taillamps are required on all motor vehicles, trailers, semitrailers, and pole trailers, except that at least one tail lamp is required on motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, and mopeds and all 1959 model year and earlier passenger cars and trucks.

j. Lamps are not mounted on rear of vehicle.

k. Lens is cracked or broken to the extent that a portion of the lens is missing and/or separated, permitting light from the bulb to emit through the crack or break.

NOTE: Lamp lenses cannot be repaired with repair tape or repair kit.

NOTE: Vehicles that are equipped from the manufacturer with approved lenses which are clear and lighted by L.E.D. lights will pass state inspection.

NOTE: Vehicles that are equipped with after market lenses which are clear and lighted by a red bulb will be rejected. (There are no red bulbs currently approved for use on vehicles.)

you can find some good black ones on e bay. dont go smoked, go for clear lenses with black backgrounds. as for the tail lights get your self some black taillight guards, the metal ones will match your brushguard. you could also tint the windows to whatever is legal in your area. most states allow limo dark on the back windows, but i would suggest matching the drivers windows and the back window with the same %tint.

I think these are the ones which will get most people.

c. If the lenses are too dark, the 1000 foot distance can be a problem.

d. If you use Nightshades, that is considered a paint and the lense is discolored.

h. If the lense is too dark the light might not be considered "red"

I have seen a few with clear lenses and red bulbs.

In fact, I have a third brake light which has red LEDs, so that may be considered illegal. sigh...

KR-Texas: actually it says you only have to have two tail lamps. The 3rd brake light is just that.. the third. So the third tail light is open to any kind of changing you want to do to it.

Pheonixx: You have some good ideas, but once again my opinion disagrees. I happend to think tail light covers are hideous. I love the look of smoked lights. But im not going to waste my time with the law. Although I can see myself doing the clear headlights with black backgrounds. And my windows are tinted already. They are almost impossible to see through on the both rear windows and the back window is the same. The driver's door and passenger's door have no tint on them though. Like everything else you can do that is cool with your truck, limo tint is illegal in texas. Which is terribly ironic that one of the hottest states in the United States wont allow dark tint on your windows that keeps you car cooler. Laws the law but man are some of them stupid.

Decided to throw in a llama for good measure
