Hmm...More PTM?

I was just thinking... what if you had the stock plastic bed rails painted to match? Has anyone done this? I think it would look pretty good if done right.

I've thought of it but it would have to be done right so you don't get that orange peel texture.

I've seen it a few times, it looks good, usually looks like it does not have bed rail caps.

if you're talking about sanding them smooth and painting them, wouldn't they get beat up from use? I think that using something like krylon would look good and be more durable.

I painted my dad's work truck with Krylon Fusion (satin black, I think). Looked good for a couple weeks, but it has started to peel. Not sure if it's the sun, or what.

Maybe I'll try the trim spray paint they sell at Advanced/Autozone. If anything, that should be more built for the sun. I would consider PTM, but I'm not sure how long it would last with it being a work truck and all.

EDIT: Scratch that, seems I painted them on "02-18-2008" according to the post I made. Well, guess they lasted a good year or so, since they started peeling a couple months ago.

well there are restoration products like showroom new that will re-dye them back to black. you just can't get them but black or grey.

I was just thinking it would look pretty good if done right. The problem is, I want a bed cover PTM but I use my bed wayyyyy too much. I love the way the colors flow from bed to the cover and hide the faded black. So if the rails themselves were painted to match, it would kinda be the same concept of the cover. Hiding those hideous faded black rails.
