If it were mine, I would get some of the fx2 caps painted your color red. That would look very nice IMHO

I'm actually really glad this was brought back up. Is there anyways that jsvo5695 could tell us his process? Sanding steps, primer used, etc.. I'm looking to do this within the next few weeks and wondering if it would worth it to buy already smooth aftermarket handles from dorman or if i could get the same result using my factory ones.

well i am doing this also which is why i dug up the grippin tech sheet on removing the handles and jsvo thread,

i am using OEM textured handles and sanded with 100 to remove the texture and then adfhesive promoter and primer afterwards, and been sanding with 220 and 400 on the primer (sanding and primer, atleast repeat two or three times) to get them decent enough for paint...i'm no expert but i would like some input on behalf of those who did them using the OEM textured also, how's they holding up etc etc

I'm wanting to do this too, but I'm kind of stuck. my f150 is the only wheels I have, I don't have a garage and i don't have time or money to "experiment" with smoothing and painting my handles. I can't go a week or so without door handles because knowing my luck terrential downpours will happen and then someone will steal my truck! I can purchase already smooth aftermarket exterior door handles for about 100 bucks new. My problem is that i've heard from a couple of the local body shops that the aftermarket handles aren't as durable as the oem. I don't understand that because it's not like door handle is an abused or a "wear" item on a vehicle. I don't know. I'm just stuck! I'm thinking I just might break down and buy the already smooth handles and see how it goes.

What about buying used handles from a wrecker? There must be a bazillion smashed 04-08 150's in your general area. With a little more effort, you might even find one the right color.
