need help with grille

ok hears my problem i got a roush chrome over plastic grille and i bought a new chrome surround. i put the 6 studs on the surround and i lined all the tabs up with the grille and pushed the surround onto the grille and thats all the farther i got. but it doesnt seem like its on their right for some reason. im scared to really torque on it beacuse its only plastic but is their a certain way to set the tabs like do they click when their inplace or how do you know their inplace. like when i look at the upper part of the grille to see the tabs i can see that the tabs kinda scratched the black paint on the grille is that normal. i just dont want to be driving down the road and my surround falls off the grille. it just seems like i need to push the tabs in farther but it wont go anymore closer to the grille

not really sure exactly what your asking

are you having trouble getting the grill into the surround or the surround/grill on the truck ?

the grill should snap into the surround
and
the back of the "studs" have the square blocks that should slide into the hood (i think) and get them as tight as you can

it sounds like 1 of the tabs isn't aligned right, you will have that with chrome surrounds, the plating process bends them a tad.

make sure all the tabs are in-line with the slots where they are supposed to be, then just push down hard and they snap in, the grille and surround are just held together with the snaps.

A trick that worked VERY well for me when doing my Roush grill and getting it all lined up and in there nicely was a hair dryer.

Heating up the clips and the areas of the surround they snap into was very helpful. Heating them up just for 30 seconds or so makes them a bit softer and easier to bend and snap in place. I had trouble with just one of the snap clips on mine and with heat was easily able to get it into place.
