I'm thinking about purchasing a Lund roll pan for my truck and I was wondering if there would be a way just a regular guy could paint it and it look good. Would it just be as easy as spray painting it? It's finished in a white gelcoat that can be painted, so what kind of paint would I need, and would I have to use a paint gun?

First you need a good paint gun $300-$600, next you need a quality paint, I prefer PPG. Sealer, base, and clear. You also need good filtered ventalation or you will get a dirty paint job. Might be cheaper/easier to have a body shop paint it

 

bought it this morning. it'll be on and painted along with the front bumper by the end of next week. =]]]

Did you do the expensive paint gun part? Post the process if you can, I'll be prepping to do my bumper hopefully soon.

 

You can get a cheapy Astro paint gun for under $100. It will work good enough for what your doing. I use one for my primer gun and when its wears out I get a new one(disposable guns). If you have a garage you can paint it in there, just wet the floor down and broom or squidgy out any puddles so you dont splash. Spray on a nice calm day an keep the door up about 6" while spraying.

Wet sand the piece first with wet/dry paper, 360 grit should good. Then wash it off good, dry it out and tack it down. Seal with some good sealer like DP40. Then it depends if you want just a single stage paint or a base coat/clear coat. Use a good quality paint like PPG. (pudgy painter guy) You'll probly be good with a quart for that. Strain the paint into the cup after you mix it first.
