none of them are brighter unless you go higher wattage which can burn your harness. silverstars, piaa, ect just put out a whiter light.

Unless the cop is a ***** and knows cars, I doubt he's going to ask you to pop the hood to check those ballasts. Other than that, the cop would have to be a total lameass to pull you over for HID in the first place. He'd have to catch you doing something else first. Also, HID's dont blind people. I think they have less glare than halogens, in fact.

In all honesty, I'm not so sure the Silverstars I just installed are any brighter than my stockers. They're different, and look pretty bright with the crisp white light, but I've only driven with them for last night and tonight. I'll give them a little more time to give an honest opinion.
I have Ultras on the way for the wife's car as well. Maybe I'll get rid of those and try some GE Nighthawks instead. I've read heard disappointing reviews about them as well, but according to science, these are actually brighter than Silverstars.

I used to have some Nighthawks in mine. They didn't seem any different than my stock ones. I think what it is, as some have posted here, is that the SS bulbs are "whiter", therefore they appear more appealing to the eyes.

I remember a while ago some magazine (I think it might have been Popular Mechanics) tested how far GE Night Hawks and SS bulbs compared to stock in distance. The distances varied by car (or in other words, by headlight design). Some, stock was better. Others, the GE's or the SS were better.

I'd go with them, or the VisionX bulbs like someone else mentioned before.
I've got vision X in my truck

However, if you're getting flashed on low beams, with either set of bulbs, all that means is that you need to adjust your beams, they're too high.
Silverstar and VisionX are both great bulbs, cant say anything bad about the silverstars, but the vision X is a great alternative at a great price!

I don't know if the 03's use the same bulbs as the 2004's and up so I'll use my truck, a 2008, as an example. The H13 (headlights) and 9005 (fogs) both had two different watt ratings. The H13 comes in 55W/65W and 80W/100W. I chose the lower 55W/65W to make sure temperatures do not exceed the tolerance of the harness. I chose the lower rating for the 9005's as well. They're still much better than stock and give a nice white light. I highly recommend!
Thanks for the link!

Let me know if there are any other questions about the VisionX bulbs. VisionX is not just a fly by night company, they have GREAT products, from their halogen bulbs all the way to LED light bars and HID offroad lights.

I have been looking at replacing my bulbs on my 08' FX4 but have read elsewhere that the extra heat may cause damage to the light housing. Anyone experienced issues after replacing the stocks?
