Smile Tailgate...I dont like it...(pictures included)

I really dont like my tailgate, It's outdated an it has some problems that the body shop caused..I was rear ended about a year ago at a dead stop by someone doing 40 not paying attention. Anway, for some reason the body shop put tape under my bedliner cover on my tailgate (pictured below)

I tryed to take it off with alot of different solvents but i cant get it off. I tryed gasoline, paint thinner, goo-gone, nothing worked. Its almost baked on, it not even sticky...

Heres a picture of my tailgate as it is now. I know those net tailgates dont work but they do look good on some trucks, do you think i should put one on mine? What should i do to update the appearance a little?

The tape just seals out the moister. I would be more worried about the fact that they didn't match the color more than the tape. You can put a chrome protector that will cover the tape.

Try some M.E.K. to get the tape off. Should be able to pick some up at lowes in the paint thinner section. And it wont hurt the paint.

Easy off oven cleaner (the reg. yellow spray can crap). Spray it on, let it sit in the sun for 5 min, and take a rag to it. It should work real well. Repeat as needed

Have you tried a heat gun to get the tape off? Maybe even a kickass blow dryer.
