Black Fender Emblems - Your $0.02 Please

I want the F-150 emblems on my '07 all black. I know some have simply taped off the fender and painted them. The other alternative is to remove them and have them powdercoated. If removing them isn't too much of a hassle I tend to go the powdercoating route, especially since I've got other items for coating.

Whatchathink? Will the paint hold up? I'm a little concerned about not being able to prep them properly. Is removing them a project? Thanks.

I think most people here get them off with fishing line. I think they are just double sided tape and two guide pins on the back. Powder them, you will not be dissappointed. Don't get flat black as it has no UV protection and will oxidize wuickly. Ask for satin finish, you will love it! Or you gould go high gloss but Satin rocks!

They're plastic. Don't know if you can powdercoat plastic.

PAINT THEM !!!!!
i guess if you wanted you could take them off and paint them not hard at all
heat them up and use fishing line like blue f150 said. and buy some 3m double sided tape . keep in mind if you take them off you have to put them back on straight lol.

like the badges blackout...where the inlays hard to do i got mine in a while ago just hesitant to install them.

i tried two different methods:
1] cut the inlays, so each letter is seperate. then eyeball where you want it and apply them and peel off the clear backing. this method wasnt 100% accurate because once its stuck to the emblem there is no way to adjust the decal.

2] also cut the inlay sheet so the letters are all seperate. then spray window tint slip solution(found at any auto store)on the emblem. and then apply the inlay to where you want it. with the slip solution you can adjust the letters so that they align correctly. use your finger to squigee out the air bubbles..the only issue with using this method is that decal is difficult to separate from the clear backing once you align the letter to where you want it.. but just keep the clear backing on until the slip solution dries and the glue on the decals stick to the emblem and then carefully remove the clear backing...
it sounds like a pain, but just be patient it will come out good

I didn't realize they were plastic, so powdercoating is definitely out. However, the PC shop also has an epoxy-based product that is just a durable, but doesn't require heat. I used it to black-out the plastic grill on my '70 El Camino. Looks like this will be the way to go. Thanks.

May be worth a try. After all, if it doesn't work out I can always remove them and have them epoxy-coated.

Did you have to sand the lettering any more than the badge itself?

Looks like you could use some Showroom New black dye for those fender flares - it makes them look brand new.
