what to do
so i got an 04 lariat and its got the wood trim, i dont really like the wood trim, i was thinkin bout carbon fiber inserts but i cant seem to find any that would cover all the wood trim, the ones that i see come with to many peices but dont have the pieces that cover the wood trim on the doors.
i was thinkin maybe i could just paint over them... anyone know what kinda paint i could use and what kinda prep i gotta do?
or any places that might sell carbon fiber insertd that arent so expensive or that have the right pieces? i heard there are ones that you can just stick over the pieces that are there.
the parts that are wood are around the radio, the ash tray and on the door where the door handle is, and right below it.
thanks in advance

I'm with you on this, JIFF.
I think the simulated wood trim on my KR is sort of "tacky" too. Trouble is, anything I could buy, just like in your experience, won't fix the tacky fake wood in the doors.
I've been searching, without much success, for a source for KR (Castano) leather that I could use to cover those things - and some others as well. The King Ranch forum had a thread on this a while back, but the thread is a bit dead and I'm not quite ready to call the one "live", possible source just yet.
I can't imagine that painting the door panels would look right. I think if you painted them, you'd be forced to paint the dash panels to match. This might be OK, if you found a color you liked.
And, I think carbon fiber is a good choice. Just don't know how you'd match it on the doors.
Maybe your answer is to find a "cool" paint you can use on everything.
And, I'm sorry I'm not much help here - as "Bubba" said, "I feel your pain"!

I would paint them, go to a reputable body shop and ask for a qoute.
You can color match them to the outside of the truck (thats what i did) or aks if they have a sort of satin or flat paint.
most body shops can do a flat paint job now with no clear on it.
You can get the radio trim, ash tray, etc and the door panels done in the same color.
DuPont has a special paint thats just for the flat or satin look.
I have glossy true blue on my radio surround and ash tray areas as well as on my door panels and want to eventually do silver on the darker grey areas of my dash, but ill be using the flat paint due to glare issues.
There is also a thread floating around where a guy removed his trim and sent if off to have it done in carbon fiber. They came out spectacular but it may be a bit pricey.

yea i saw the ones that you can send out, they look awsome but def pricey
it would be sweet to color match them to the outside, just not sure how it will look... the outside is dark green and tan and the inside is gray and tan leather, just not sure how the green would look with the gray. i was also thinkin maybe a flat black.
do you know of a place i can buy the paint to do it myself? my buddy is a painter so im sure he could spray it, im just not sure what kinda prep you would have to do to the surfaces or if there is a special kinda paint
