WTF? Go buy that VHT NiteShade and do it yourself for $20, plus the fact knowing you did it. That's what customization is to me. I like to do things my way or the highway. Rarely will I have some shop do something so easy!

Plus, some guys on here had even had their NieShaded tails clearcoated for free from local paint shops.

Well carbon fiber wouldn't be so bad for me in small accents just because it blends with the truck so well, everything on it is dark gray and black, carbon fiber is exactly that.

Harley tails sound cool, so I came up with a plan. I'll attempt to smoke my tails myself, and if they turn out good then I'll smoke my third brakelight too and probably roll with that for awhile. I would tint them relatively dark because I have a Recon Line of Fire LED brakelight strip between my tailgate and bumper, which is REALLY bright already.

BUT if they don't turn out the way I want or I screw up trying to tint them then I'll learn from my mistakes to properly tint my third brakelight and then grab some Harley tails. Because those ones look pretty sick too.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

You, my friend, have never done it. It is hard to do and even harder to get a good clear coat. This will be professionally done and done right.

Tail LIghts

I had a pair of "Carbon Fiber" tail lights on my black '98 F-150. I think they looked alot better then the stock ones IMO. I got mine for less than $70 of ebay, and the build quality was suprisingly good. IMO the carbon fiber lights look no where near as "ricey" as the clear "chrome" tails that some poeple but on.

I might be able to pull it off. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's a type of paint you can apply yourself right? I have a high-end paint spray gun that I use with my compressor that does nice and even coats every time I paint something with it. Would I be able to do it that way?

You can't go wrong with Harley tails.

My Harley tails are on the left, stock to the right.

Are those two the same truck? BTW, left looks cool, but not something that would catch my eye or turn my head. Unless someone told me, I woul'dnt have known those were HD tails. Guess its cause I own a 10th gen.

Almost identical, actually the same year bought from the same dealership.

As for the HD tails, I prefer the subtle difference.

Im the same way. I had to look at 10 different phots of the harley tails to be able to tell the difference. Its deffinately subtle, but I like it. "Sharper" look to it.

You should be able too, its mastering the clear coat that is the problem.

I'll see if I know anybody that can give me pointers on putting a clear coat on.

Or I could probably do the tinting then take it to a paint shop and see how much a clear coat is. It shouldn't be too expensive.
