A fluted lens generally means you have a fog pattern light. The flutes run vertically - which gives you a wide, flat pattern. Fog beams are generally used to see a relatively short distance out in front of the truck and well out to the sides. A fog pattern also has the advantage of (generally) not reflecting back off of snow or fog and blinding you.

A driving beam generally has almost a clear (non fluted) lens and is used to see much farther down the road - but at the expense of not illuminating much off to the sides. There is also something called a pencil beam which gives you pretty much a pencil thin beam of light - that really goes long distance. If you're really looking for throwing light down the road, go with a driving light.

spot lights are great if you have one of then you can aim with your hand. or if you have 4 or 5 of them on the roof. if your just going to put 2 on the front of your rig go with driving.
