High beam HID on 03 Expy

As of right now, I have Silverstars in my low, high, and fogs. I do some highway driving, and even though the 9005 SS do a good job, I was wondering how much better a "plug-and-play" 9005 kit would be.

I'm going to keep the stock reflector. I don't think I have to worry about glare, since...well, it's the high beams. High beams are meant to be in your face The low beams SS would stay, and I might put the 9005 SS bulbs in the fogs. The fogs, well, I'll just give them to my dad.

So, I guess what my questions are:

-Will the stock high beam reflector be able to throw the majority of the light down the road? I mean, if it isn't going to light further than the SS, then it would be kinnda pointless.

-What color would be closest to the SS? 4.5k, 5k, 6k?

-Any good kits for less than 100? I know there's plenty of kits on E-bay, but I'm assuming the cheaper kits aren't worth?

I probably won't do this for a while, but it's on my mods list. Just gathering some info. TIA

hey elvato,
the HID kit closest to the SS color will probebly be 4500k which is supposed to resemble OEM headlights. the OE reflector wont scatter the light to bad, but it is recommended that you get a projector set up with any HID mod. as far as price goes i got my 9008 dual beam kit from Xenon eyes for 250 shipped, and i just checked and a single beam HID kit will run you about 155 shipped. i know theres another guy who posts on here and he can get them at a good price as well, hopefully he will chime in eventually. Good hunting!

For cheap HID kits, eBay. For a low as $73SHIPPED. You just have to search for them, but it should be that hard.

Here's where I bought mine, I'm very happy with them. You can also get 4300k despite what it says in their store.

Bi-xenon

If you have more questions read this first, and ask if it didn't answer your questions.

Yea, I read that before posting. Though most of the info is valid, espcially the mounting suggestions, the Expeditions (2nd gen) use two bulbs per headlight. Therefore, I don't need a bi-xenon kit. Just wondering if anyone knew a decent seller of 9005 bulbs.

Oh, no problem I think the seller's name is stillenmaxima, he has 50w kits I would like to have tried one, but I like having a high beam. They supposedly have another 1000 lumens, but if its just for high beam only, get a decent kit for cheap. I got my fogs from HID4U for $80.
