Painted my Headlights
PLD,
what preparation did you do besides masking before you painted the headlights?
have you had any problems in the past with paint peeling?
how did you reseal them after you finsihed painting?
what kind of paint did you use, anything special, or rustoleum?
have you had any moisture leak problems since you painted them?
If anyone could answer these questions I would be much appreciative, I want to black out a lightning style set-up, but I don't want to screw anything up.
Thanks in advance for any help or comments

That's cool.
I had a Honda Civic a long time ago that I did that too. Same way, in the oven. So my friend with a Jeep Cherokee decided to put his taillights in there to install fog lights. lol It melted them.

Q#1. I would have taken the chrome and maybe gone over it with a scotch brite or wet sandpaper (400-600grit).
Q#2. So far so good on the paint not pealing.
Q#3. To reseal them just pop them back in the oven to get the glue soft again or add some new sealant choice is yours...
Q#4. Nothing special on the paint in this case just your typical fast dry.
Q#5. As long as you dont get water in the headlight while you reseal them I dont see a problem with moisture
Hope this helps.
I noticed that there is no ugly orange reflector/marker in ur headlights, were u able to simply pull that out when u opened the Hlight up?????????? looks really good black and with no orange in there!!
I already have black heads and tails, bought them, if I would have seen this thread first, probably would have done it, they look amazing, but here is my question, would this work with the third brake light, I just went outside to smoke and was walking around my truck dreaming about what I can do to it next and imagining it, and the third brake light caught my eye then I remembered reading this and that has me curious, any opinions on if it would work?

they will come apart, but the clear lens will have heat stress cracks barely visible. Unsure of the reason that you had to drill holes to get at screws? and to reseal them id recomend removing all the old sealant and going to the ford parts counter and getting a tube of black silicone. The black section of the housing has a channel, put new sealant in the channel then sandwich the two parts together making sure it ooses out, let cure and its done.
its a cheap way todo, but also looks like it was cheaply done. plus when you do have an issue you will be buying a new light, because its not a warrenty issue.
Also, removing the reflector is a DOT issue, hope you dont have inspections where you live.
