SilverStars

I just purchased a pair of Ultra Silverstars from Auto Zone yesterday and all I can say is "Wow". I've been driving around with the cool blue bulbs for about 2 years and finally figured out that these weren't putting out enought light for some of these dark roads here in Texas! If you need to upgrade your existing bulbs.....I would definately recommend going with the Silverstars.......100% upgrade from what I had.

Is there a difference between the regular Silverstar lights and the Ultra Silverstar lights? BTW, nice truck.

Do they have the rebate coupons at the store or do you need to cut them out of the paper?

Sylvania Silverstars

I just put a set of 9007 Silverstars in my 1998 F150 after installing a new set of clear lens, Lightning-style headlights and corner lights. I also put in a new set of H13 Silverstars for my headlights and 9005 Silverstars for my fog lights in my 2005 F150. Wow, what a difference. The H13's didn't give me too much of an increase although the light is much, much whiter. The 9005's increased my fog lights by leaps and bounds. The 9007's in my 1998 behind the new clear lens headlights is like night and day. If you're still using those retarded, factory headlights with the lines that block half of your usable light... do yourself a favor and check out clear lens replacements.

Are those bulbs any big deal to put in? I looked briefly at where to install because I'm thinking of doing the SilverStars as well. I couldn't see an easy way to access the headlight area. If it's something simple.....like I said I haven't really looked hard yet, haha. Let me know if there's any tricks to getting to them, thanks. Sean

If you check your Owner's Manual, you'll find that replacing the headlight bulbs requires removal of the entire headlight assembly - which is actually quite simple. (You can also do a search and find instructions here.) If you follow the instructions, it's about a 5 minute deal. Remember, do NOT touch the glass surfaces on the bulbs. If you do, it will leave a bit of oil from your skin which will lead to a hot spot - then bulb failure.

Hey 2Stroked, thanks for the info. It did look like the whole assembly would have to come out from what I saw, but that's good to know it's easy. Thanks again. Sean

Ultra

Yeah the Ultras are new. I just started seeing the commercials about them a week ago. Suppose to offer better light....shine brighter and farther.

Clear lens headlights

I ordered a set of Lightning-style, clear lens headlights along with the corner lights from a guy that deals them off of eBay. For the set of four, I spent around $117 with shipping from California to Missouri. To be honest, that was the best money I've spent on my 98 F-150. The ones I ordered are made by TYC and actually, the box says www.elegantebytyc.com, so I suppose that might be the web site of the manufacturer. I haven't visited the site so I'm not sure. One thing about these that I was displeased about was the bolt assemblies, the ones that are used to hold in the headlights and for adjustment. After putting them in, they seemed to be just a tad loose for my taste so I removed the bolts off my old headlights and put those on the new ones. They are now very tight and look awesome. Also, my headlights were always misaligned from the grille (by me, of course) because I adjusted them so I could see. These new ones are perfectly aligned with the opening all the way around and are adjusted perfectly. Like I said, that was the best money I've spent on my old truck. I drove it off the showroom in February of 1998, it has 137,000 miles on it, it runs like brand new and has only been in the shop once... to replace the heater core. My '05 sits in the garage and is probably developing a complex!!

Sean, 2stroked is correct about showing in the manual. The H13's go right in no sweat. Both will take you about 5 minutes. If you install the 9005 ST/2 Silverstar bulbs in your fog lights, those will go right in as well even though the tabs are a smidge different. The tab does not require modification even though I read somewhere on here that they do. The 9005's in your fogs are pretty incredible. I read somewhere that it's about a 15% or 20% increase... I would put my money on about 50% more and very WHITE.

Not to knock you guys, but I had a set of hte silverstars and I wasn't the least bit impressed for the price......you can buy the high wattage blue halogen from summitracing with a one year warranty for like $25 shipped and they are twice as good at the silverstars in my opinion. the 80/100 vs the 45/65 or whatever stock is.

I just didn't find the silverstars to be worth the extra money

80/100 is hardly legal though.
