Why not just get a car?

Street Truck? Can someone explain it to me, maybe I'm just a redneck but I always thought trucks were made to be...well trucks. For things such as hauling, towing, etc. So what exactly is the point of a street truck, lowered to the ground with racing stripes and bumpers removed and car size tires, and the bed turned into a giant trunk then why not just get a sports car? Why ruin a rugged peice of equitment? I always thought the point of a truck was the bed, the fact that it sits higher, has more torque and a more rugged suspension for towing and hauling. I'm not damning it, I've just never been exposed to this type of attitude towards trucks. Perhaps its cause I'm from Texas or maybe I'm just weird I dunno.

The exact why people do is the fact it is rarely done.

I, for one, have a "street truck," which I consider a "sport truck" due to the increased power from mods, increased braking from mods, and increased handling from a combiantion of suspension and wheel/tire changes.

That said, I LOVE Ford trucks. I had a Ranger Edge before my F150 and liked the way it felt, looked, and performed. I wasn't a fan of any "car" being produced in the $30,000 price range when I was looking for something new.
I live in San Diego, which is basically the lifted truck capital of the world. You will not see more lifted trucks anywhere else but in southern california. it's a fact.

I got the truck because it suits my style, more rugged looking, and the aggressive lines of the truck. I also personally like the safety of the truck body (even a lowered truck will still smash the hell out of a car in an acident).

But the biggest reason is because it's DIFFERENT. I would honestly say 3 out of every 10 trucks on the road are lifted or at least have bigger tires on them. By modifying the truck the way I have I have made the truck fairly unique, and it's a blend of the tastes and styles I like. I like trucks, but I like sport tuned suspensions, and I like big wheels. Put them all together and you have my custom F150. I baby my vehicles...they are always spit shined, so I wouldn't take them off-road and damage the body or paint. So why lift it? It makes more sense to have a street/sport tuned truck that I can hot rod around and corner aggressively on the road with and enjoy it 100% of the time I drive it.

Now, had I lifted it, I would have been in the most common color, make, and style truck on the road. Not for me, sorry.

Anyway, that's my reason...

Preach on Brother Prater. I dont understand it myself. I see pimped out trucks everywhere here in Northern New York and just wonder why. But to each their own I guess.

You have to also remember, even when lowered, these trucks are great tow vehicles.

I have a cover over the back of my truck, but the inside of the bed is scratched up already from hauling stuff.

I am looking at droping the rear springs 2" to level the truck. Just like the way it looks. But it won't hurt the hauling capability at all. I will never slam one, but that's my choice.

may be a little off subject......i live in the South, and today i saw the funniest thing.....a "pimped" out Neon. Had the loud muffler to compliment its weedeater engine, racing stripes, a spoiler like the wing of a 737, rediculous wheels, and some crap written in chinese or japanese across the front window.....you get the picture. All i could think about was... 15,000 bucks of aftermarket stuff on the $250 Neon.....It's still, and always gonna be a NEON!!!!!!!

One more thing.....to the guy with the lowered white f150, i always cringed at the sight of a lowered truck......but yours looks really good!

ok here is my insite on it i have about close to 25,000 in my truck it's my show truck i drive it on weekends and on nice days . if i wanted to lift it i would have but it's my choice to drag the **** out of it . as for the bed and using it like a truck as you stated . That would just be a waste of my money on something so nice . No i don't haul anything in the bed are do i go off road in it it's not made for that it's just something i like and i put my money and time into . don't get me wrong i like lifted trucks there nice but just not my cup of tea . and the reason like another member said i do all this to my truck is to set it apart from the rest and simply b/c i have the money to do so . sorry for the rant fellas but i don't come here that often b/c i feel this is just a more lifted truck community and feel i'm not much help here and wanted .

It really is about "to each his/her own". Whatever looks good to you! There is guys with trucks 10 ft. in the air needing laddrers, for city driving, and farmers with airbag trucks! Taking a basic platform and personalizing it is what makes all this possible. This site, SEMA show, performance shops etc. Otherwise the world would be dull, well moreso then. Ya, sometimes it's weird to see certain things, like a truck that resembles a car, or a 30 second 1/4 mile Honda that looks like a funny car. Oh well! Most times see what's behind the wheel and how they drive that is wrong.

x2 Blue20004x4,

Lowered trucks are definatley not my "cup of tea", but to some people they are. The ones I actually do hate are the cheapo done import trucks, then to cap it off they slap a 5" coffee can exhaust on there and make'em sound like the previously mentioned neon!

Having said that, a well-done lowered truck looks nice, but again, I wouldn't have one.

So what exactly is the point of a street truck

Its to fill the void in my life that GM left there after they cancelled the El Camino...........

Man.....those were good times

Funny thing is, I could never figure out why you rednecks had to go and Fudge up a perfectly good El Camino.......

I mean, Why didnt you guys just go out and buy a pick up???? It isnt like YOUR ride got axed.

not a fan of it but I have to say some people with street trucks look awsome. One point is if they make a cool street truck they still have a ton of space for people or hauling things.

I always thought a truck should be a truck and therefore should be able to do what trucks should be able to do. I have a friend that lowered his GM truck and put rims, a tonneau, and has after market parts. We parked in a dirt parking lot one time. He drove in first and I drove in after. He had to leave later on and he wanted me to move my truck so he could drive down the slanted curb cuz he couldn't drive around, other than just dropping down a 5 inch curb I had to move cuz he'd bottom out on it. But lowered trucks do look good at shows.

ive lowered mine, and i can go down or up curbs if i do it the right way. Even when my truck was at stock ride hieght i didnt like going up or down a curb head on. angle-ing it is easier on the driver neways.

I have still towed (a car), and hauled things (helped people move) after i lowered mine. And it definetly looks better!

BTW i am selling to get into a smaller truck w/o payments
