looks really good. Really makes that paint color look darker too. I love the way it turned out for you

Pat,

I have to give you all of the credit for coming up with the idea in the first place.

heh yah well its funny i see a relatively small community of people painting their grills and replying, then i move into a new apt complex
(here for school) and there is another f150 parked in my corner that has his grill painted black too, and guess what the truck is silver too. its only an ext cab tho. i think its a 2000 or 01.

Tiny: Nice job painting the grille! It definately looks much better than the
stock gray. I had been thinking about stainless/chrome grille but.....with
the chrome grille guard, I thought it would have been too much in the same
area.

Thanks for the compliments.

I have to agree with you that if you did go with the chrome/stainless grill it would be too much in one area. IMHO I think that toe combination that you currently have is just right

Thumbs up F150 Grill

How do you get the honeycomb insert out and the emblem off in order to paint it?

Scott:
You can refer to the beginning of this thread.....Patman has some good pics of how he removed his header panel, etc. The grille is held in by about a dozen plastic "wedge" (for lack of better term) clips. Carefully pry up one of the clips, leave the screw driver there, and move (carefully)on to the next one.
As far as the emblem, there are two plastic screw nuts on the back side.
Good luck.
Mike

I wonder why no one with a newer body style truck has done this, or at least chimed in on this topic.

Ah, I'm glad I found this thread. I have been thinking of doing this for some time. I drive a 2000 Lariat that's red over Arizona Beige. My honeycomb grille is dull and gray and faded out. How about this: The new F-150 Lariats ('04+) have honeycomb grilles that are painted Arizona Beige. I was considering painting mine Arizona Beige. What do you think? Good idea?

you could do beige, the problem is im sure its pretty hard to get an exact match. Id probably just go black since you see "tiny1" pics and see how well the black on red turned out.

AZ Beige would be pretty difficult unless you have access to the exact match paint, or have a buddy at a paint shop. My whole truck is AZ Beige so I don't know what color to paint it other than black.
