I was able to do the emblems on my daughter's 99 with no problem. I did hers and my 03 Supercrew in a couple of hours. What I did different was use Prestone Brake Cleaner. It will take all of the black off with little effort. both trucks took less than three cans.

I masked off the emblems with tape, then taped a trash bag under the emblems. One thing I learned was that the over spray and splatter had to be removed with a rag and some more cleaner. When I was done, I made a quick trip to the carwash to make sure it was all cleaned off. Looks pretty cool.
