tail lights

A while back before the changes here, there were some of you that had pics and things of your taillights that you had blacked out using model tint and then cleared over them. Can some one give me a few specifics, i would like to do this, and have a few questions

Do I need to scuff the lights before spraying the tint on?
Where do i find the tint? Hobbie shops in my area seem to be few, and I checked out Wally World with no luck.

How durable is the finished product? My body guy is concerned that the clear won'tadhere to the tint or the tint won't adhere to the lens..

Any help is appreciated.

I was getting a 3M Invisible Bra installed last week at a detailer and I while I watched I saw a product that is a film that when applied to the rear tail light blacked it out but when the lamp went on the light worked.. Detailer said if I put it on my black FX4 the entire back would be blacked out except for the chrome F150 badge and of course the oval.... not sure what the name is but knowing that a product exists may help you look in a different hole.
