Post Painting a Chrome Grille Shell?

I wanted to know if its possible to paint the Chrome grille shell on my 99 F150. It doesnt feel like metal more like an aluminum. If i took it to a body shop would they be able to sand it down and paint it? I heard that they have a coating that they can put on certain materials to make the paint adhere better. Thanks.

Yea i work at Discount Auto Parts. My truck is silver and there are a lot of silvers to choose from so i should be able to do it. How did yours come out, did it match your truck really good in terms of being shiny with your clearcoat cause i dont want to go to a body shop and throw out another 80 bucks to get it painted.

Its easy to do it your self, depeding on the color of your truck, go to a trusted Auto shop, ask them to mix up a paint macthing you truck, mine is white so i got paint from Discount auto parts), Sand the chrome on the girl so you have a surface for the paint to grip, then prime it, and paint, after the paint is dry, lightly add a few coats of clear. Its also very easy to remove the grill shell

Thumbs up

It would be cheaper, and less of a hassle to get a new one, alot of bodyshops charge $45 plus an hour for labor and matierials are expensive too. Think of the amount of time it would take to prep a chrome grill! You can sell your chrome grill in the classifieds here after your done with the swap, and make out like a bandit Just MHO,,,,98
