Illegal Window Tint?

I was just pulled over today by a State Trooper (I live in Kansas) and he said the reason was because of my window tint. I've had the truck for nearly a year and a half and never had any problems. Anyways he asks how dark the tint is and I say that I had been that way since I bought it at the dealership (Which it had) and he gave me a written warning that allows me 10 days to fix it, anyways, he said that my windows were tinted at 4% and when I asked what the limit was he started muttering and I couldn't understand him, so does anyone know what the legal limit is in Kansas? THanks.

Oh, and he said it would be a $160 ticket... seems pretty steep for a petty tint violation.

Atleast I know what percent it is now

Hmm, I thought that the back window could be as dark as you wanted it, I guess I was wrong!

In most states the tint laws apply to the front windows and windshields. Most 4 door trucks and SUV's come from the factory with 20% tint on the rear doors and back window and there is no way to remove it.

Check with your laws about tint for Trucks. It's usually different for trucks over cars. Like here our back window can be as dark as we want. Paint it black if we wanted... because, seriously. If you piled the bed up with stuff, you couldn't see out the back window anyway.

If you got it at the dealership with that tint, then I believe it should be legal on your state. I highly doubt they would put illegal tint on your vehicle from the factory.

Or how about those rear window 'pictures'... that show say the flag on it or something. Can't see in but you can see out.

I've been pulled over twice for my tint. In California, you can have the back window tinted as dark as you want. It's the two side windows you're not supposed to have ANY tint on, but I have 20%. I've taken it off twice and had them retinted twice. I still don't have a fine on my last tint violation. Their court system is backed up.........if that's the case, then why are cops wasting valuable court time with tint violations when there are more pressing violations out there. Geez!
The CHP who wrote the tint off for me, said "What do you expect when you dress a truck up like that."

It is not the police that are at fault or wasting time. Think about pulling over someone who may be a fellon and having to walk up to the window of a car or truck with tint so dark you can not see what is going on inside. My father is a police officer and was shot (thankfully not killed) by some low life in a truck with deeply tinted windows. The point being you never know what is on the other side.

Lightbulb

35% is plenty dark anyhow

I can respect the reason for the law, but I think the factory back and supercab in my truck are 20% from the factory.....and you cant take it off.

Well the truck had been leased out and the tint had been put on by the leaser, so I'm sure that takes away any liability that the dealership should have on it...

I heard that there was no way to accurately test how dark a tint is, I had limo tint put on my truck from a auto fx store and would hate to be pulled over too.

limo tint

Mine are black! I need it here in Vegas, being an ex law enforcement I know the rule just roll them down when an Officer rolls up next to you as a courtesty and you shiouldnt get hasseled. As dark as mine are Im glad I left the back stock because I wouldnt be able to back up! As it is I have to roll down the windows at night in parking lots so I dont run anyone over, but it sure looks good and cuts down on the heat.

Man that truck looks sweet with that tint Cronister. I think I'm gonna try that on my Silver truck.

And I also think in Saskatchewan its illegal to have any tint on the sides but whatever.
