Talking Line-X the body?

I'm considering having my truck entirely coated in gloss black Line-X rather than to re-paint. I don't plan to do this for probably another 2 years because I'm in pretty good shape now, but I'd like to get an idea of how much weight it would add, and of course the cost and any other issues that may come up. There is a Rhino-Linered Chevy running around here. It looks cool, but I don't dig the flat black rubbery look. Any input appreciated.

Just make sure you are inside the cab before they Line-X the doors.
And install a new battery, top off all fluids and get one good last oil change.

it would look a little cheap and cheesy.

to me, its rtight up there with the guys that repaint their trucks with Tremclad and a roller brush.

Really? I'd think it'd be pretty tuff...and no one else is sportin' it. To each his own I guess.

There is an S-10 in my neighborhood that is sprayed half way up all around.
They do some off-roading I guess.
If the whole truck was done I think it would increase the weight quite a bit.

I have seen this on lots of vehicles, so your idea isn't that original, sorry, LOL.
I think its a better look on say an old wheelin vehicle than a new truck, I dont think it'd lookv ery good but thats my opinion.
Also, expect to pay about $3000-4000 to have your vehicle coated in line-x or rhino lining.

Just made the call, my local shop said start to finish $1,200 - $1,500 and it would only take 7 - 8 gallons if I did a 1/16" coating. The stuff only weighs just over water so I'm also only looking to pickup maybe 80 lbs. total. It sounds more and more attractive to me. I appreciate your opinions though...I'll think about it realy hard before commiting. I'm all about having something different, around here anyway.

what would that translate into? 200-300 lbs of added weight?

Yup, I told him it was the Flareside but he didn't seem to act like it made a difference. I'll be sure to bring it up again. I was thinking about doing this next summer, and still may...but depending on how my Procharger goal goes, I may do this sometime in 05. If I fall that much short on the blower I may do this mod instead. I can't believe more people aren't all over this idea on the boards or even in the workplace...hahahaha...maybe I've lost it.

If hes going to do it for $1200-1500, expect a ****ty job. No offense. But this requires masking off EVERYTHING, as overspray on windows, trim, wheels, tires, frame, etc. wouldn't be repairable afterword... making sure joints like where the hood opens, etc. don't get overspray or they won't open, sanding the entire vehicle down and probably spending 2-3 days to spray it... like I said, if they do a decent job of it. It's much more then just spray and go. If they are doing things like the inside door jam, etc. expect it to up a lot more...

Since the truck is already black, I wouldn't want the door jams, etc to get sprayed. It's a Line-X shop so I'm sure the work is guarenteed. He said they'd done several in the past and it wasn't an issue. We'll see how it goes. I'm not just going to hand it over and see what I end up with. Every Line-X job I see (bedliner) has been done very well with perfect even lines and never any overspray. I'm sure they are aware how permanent the stuff is, and how important it is to not have gritty black tar all over the glass, wheels, etc.

I coated the bottom 12" of a truck I had. I thought it looked pretty sweet and it stopped all the rock chips that I was getting on the truck. I say go for it and let us know how it turns out.

A buddy of mine did bring up a good point. My ABS hood scoops would have to go, because the Line-X is sprayed on too hot for plastics. That sucks, but oh well.
