This is a different font - easier to modify than the hand-drawn letters.

Do you think it looks better or worse?

I personally like the first 5.4L badge you posted. It looks more like a stock Ford badge.

Have to agree with Sandman...the original 5.4L had the nice "Ford" numbering lines (like the F-"150" badge).

can you not change font mid badge..like do the 5.4 one font to look like the 5 in f150 on the factory badge and then change the font for the L to match the factory lettering or does the whole thing have to have the same font?

Anyone ever think about Billet bed rail caps? Or maybe flareside steps? Might be a little pricy, but damn it would look good.

Holy Smokes...the original design and now Howie's design look AWESOME.

Too late for an order of 3/5.4L badges?? I like the idea of E-Bay or f150online.com's own AuctionMart.

Hi Guys,

I wasn't able to find a suitable font for the first 2 badges so I drew the letters line by line with Pro-E. It took longer of course but I got the look I wanted. I can easily modify the L to be rounded if that is the look you want.

On that last badge, I used a true-type font for my cut. It is much easier to change the lettering say from 5.4L to 5.4L S/C by just editing the text, but the downside is the fact that I couldn't find 'ford' fonts that look like the F-150 badge. Mattbert, help me out here - if you could send me that font you used a few posts back I would have the best of both worlds.

I hope George from MGW isn't going to steal my badge idea that I have rightfully stolen from 2000regcab54 and lariat4wd. lol! Seriously, I don't have a patent or copyright so he could copy the part easily. That's what I did when I saw 2000regcab5.4's badge. Hopefully he will let me sell a few dozen first.

Thumbs down

Good news and bad news.

Bad: The shop said the 5.4 badges will be about $50 each, and more for the 5.4L - cost prohibitive in my opinion.

Good: They suggested milling one to use as a mold for sand casting or die casting. The setup would be expensive but parts would only cost a few dollars each at most. I don't know any casting shops in town so I will get on the phone and see what's available.

Howie.

$50??? Ouch.

Maybe chromed plastic? Or even pot-metal?
I dunno. Maybe die cast, but would need to be painted or chromed to prevent corrosion.

Keep us posted.

Good news: I found a machine shop here in town that is a little slow on work... I am having some 5.4L badges made for a total cost of $30 each. I gave them the thumbs up to make 50 for starters. They should be done in a week or so.

The price still seems steep but that is for milled 6061-T6 aluminum parts that say 5.4L in text that matches the F-150 badge. You can wow all your f150 buddies!

I will post a pic of the finished part as soon as I have the first one.
