Question Chrome grille surround....paint it or get a new one?

Hey folks, I REALLY want to get myself a billet grille for my truck but I'm stuck at making a hard decision. My surround is chrome but I think it would look much better if it was colored. My truck's deep wedgewood blue (rare color according to those ford dealership guys). Anyhow, should I just paint the surround or shell out a lot more cash on getting a colored-keyed one? The only thing that's holding me back from painting it is I'm afraid the paint would chip or scratch off. Has anyoned painted their's? Would you reccomend it? Also, who (besides the online store) sells a billet grille for the chrome surround? Thanks alot you guys....

I recently had the chrome grill surround painted as well as the side chrome mirror covers painted. I am very happy with how they look now. I do not know how well they will hold up but as for the look 6 months after painting, I am very happy. Painting the surround costed about $100, a new one from Ford about $250.

You can get a "bladerunner" grille surround from a number of manufacturers in Truckin' magazine. Paint doesn't stick to chrome for long unless you can grind the chrome off down to your fiberglass. Of couse I live in NY, so with the temperature change, I lost the paint off my chrome probably due to temp. changes. Like fsufan11 said, using what you've got will save you ~$200.

Stull Billet grilles will fit in the Chrome surround. I had looked at all the options including replcing the whole thing. I decided to go with a black grill to set off the silver and since the rest of the supercrew is trimmed in Black around the windows etc. This is not a good picture but was taken right after I finished putting it in and its dark and late and in the garage.
