vent shades
I bought some vent shades for my 97 X cab, and noticed that they use double sided tape to attach. I thought some brands just stick up in the weather stripping. I dont want to stick them to the paint, does anyone know if they are all like this for the 97-00 F 150's?

I have the Ventshade brand that uses doublesided tape and it doesn't touch the paint. Line it up to see if that's true for what you got. There is a rubber or plastic seam around the edge of the door where it is applied. They 'DO' go on the paint in the Chevy application. Just follow the directions and make sure to use the alcohol swab. I have seen these things flapping in the breeze on other trucks. Mine have been on for nearly two years with no problem.
I had a nice set on my '97 -- however I did not like the fact that they drip water into the window and add quite a bit of blind-spot to the door pillar -- so there's none on the Y2K.

Thanks for your replies. I just thought some brands inserted inot the window frame. If it doesn't touch the paint, then no biggie. Thanks also for the heads up about the blind spot. I will hold them up to see if I like em before I install. Thanks again.

I have profile windstream vent shades and they stick to the rubber weather striping along the out side of the window and a little bit goes onto the the black plastic piece by the side mirrors.

I have the v-tech oval shades, and they stick on to the window itself with doublesided tape. Only problem is on of the tapes got wore out and now it rattles which is very annoying, so I'll be fixing that shortly.
captainoblivious, now I'm not going to go into this whole 'oblivious' thing, I'm just trying to help here. When you 'fix' it make sure you don't put it on "...the window itself" this time. The shade is not supposed to go up and down when the window is operated.

Yes, I think the "Weather-Tech" ones stick inside the rubber seal.
Check though.
I have Vent Shades Vent Visors on mine. I couldn't get them to stick the the rubber with the double-sided tape, so I stuck them on the paint. That's ok, they'll come off with a little "Goo-Gone"
Good luck.

I have the weather tech visors and they do not use any tape, they fit between the weatherstrip and the window. It is a pressure fit so they don't fall out and they don't make any noise. Plus they come off so you can really clean your windows without cutting your hand.

sorry guys I was talking about something different. The vent shades I have are fine and absolutely no problems with them.
The ones where the doublesided tape wore out are these thing made by V-tech that cover the smaller side windows of the x-cab. They attach directly to the window with double-sided tape. Thats what I was talking about.
Sorry guys, got confused.

Yeah, Where did you find the weather tech ones. How would they fit in the rubber on the extra cab windows? I would like that, no cut hands sounds great.

I also have the weather tech vent shades and ordered mine from:

I like the fact they don't tape on.

I got my weather tech visors from JC Whitney, they are only for the front doors, I don't have any over the x cab door windows
