Cool Anybody know where to get expanded metal in sheet form?

I want to have a "speed" grille look, but sitting flush against the honeycomb grille.
Does anyone know where the race car guys get this stuff? I'm doing a 68 Shelby Mustang look on the grille(You know the ones with two side by side lights in the center) but need some of this to start the process,,,,98

Look in the phone book under steel. Also many metal fabrication shops sell steel and other metal products.

Talking

Hey Thanks,
Hopefully I can find some flat sheet style
aluminum, like they use for speed grilles.
My goal is to have two 6 inch KC's(or similar) sticking out through the grille about 1/4 inch, surrounded by a gloss black sheet of this expanded metal. It should be a one of a kind. I'm just funny that way, can't stand seeing myself coming and going ,,,,98

Cool

If you want a source for materials and hardware that engineers & machinists use, call and get catalogs from:

McMaster-Carr - 630-833-0300. They are an industrial supply house and they have just about any sort of material, tool, or hardware you can dream up. The new catalog is 3000+ pages. They have 8 types of expanded and decorative metal sheet. A 4x8' sheet costs from $30 to $180 depending on material and design.

MSC industrial supply at 800-645-7270. This catalog is more for a factory or machine shop, and quite a selection of materials and tools. 4400 pages.

That should be a good start. I am a mechanical engineer for an automation company and we have all sorts of catalogs for this sort of thing.

98SCREAMER,
here is a link to the McMaster Carr site.
http://www.mcmaster.com/param/asp/ss...um&FT_128=1501 Pricing information is on catalog page 3140 you need Adobe Acrobat reader.
I thought about making my own Speed Grill also but at $58 for a 3' x 5' sheet of the oval aluminum plus my time and labor. I went ahead and bought the speed grill and painted it black.

Hey Jim A:

I'd like to see a pic of the front of your truck,it sounds pretty sharp. Thanks for the link. I would just buy a grille, but for what I want to do,the sheet stuff will be easier to work with. Plus if the sheets are three by five,I'll have a chance to mess up once,,,,thanks again,,,,,98

Oh! Okay, now I get it,Storm(Lightning) that's a cool air dam! Probably will save alot of people some time and money, too
Looks great!!!! I need some new pictures of my truck, bad. It doesn't even look like the pic in my signature any more.
You should make a post and show that air dam to everyone,it may stop a few from spending too much for the whole Lightning front end.....98
