Post Grill Surround

I have a 2000 F-150 XLT. It has the chrome surround with the very open grill. I want to replace the surround and grill with a painted surround and billet grill. Is it only hard to swap it if you keep the same surround? If I replace the surround and grill is it easy? Also, who makes a painted surround? Should I go to the dealer? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig

I have been going through this myself. It started out wanting to replace the insert with the older honeycomb style. Heres what I have learned. The chrome surround and the painted have a different sized insert opening. If you want a surround to paint to match the best way would be to have your surround scuffed painted over the chrome finish and then buy a billet insert. When I priced out another surround it came with an insert as an assembly and was over 300.00.
Hope this helps!

Yea, GR Swaney is right.
I have a work series, which also has the same surround as the chrome(but basically just not chrome) and http://www.sporttrucking.com has it for like $360. I don't think that comes painted either.

Don't paint your chrome grille,Please!
It will peel off in less than a year! Go to
a crash part dealer and buy an aftermarket surround, Then you can do whatever you need to do with it ie : paint, billet grille,etc... It will cost a lot less at a parts dealer, about $130 to $160,depends on the place. Chrome was never meant to be painted over,it doesn't hold paint well. Just the opinions
of a 7 year bodyshop worker, who has almost seen it all ,,,,,98

When i replaced the chrome surround on my 98 a few years back, I simply went to the dealer and bought the painted one, they come in the colors already, so you just buy the color you need.. think it was aroun $200
