Side Step Bars
I have Rhino Black step bars and they are very close to the bottom of the cab. They are really easy to install (1hr) They are no drilling and mount to the frame. They do have brackets that mount to the side just for more stability. I've had them on 1 year and no rust. I live in WI so we get our share of road salt. cost: $160 for the pair.

Shortly after purchasing my truck I had installed a pair of Westing black powder nerf bars. I had them installed by a pro shop.
In fact I got to the shop and settled in for a wait. Shortly afterwards, I heard a few "Damn!" and then a couple of "S##T" coming from the garage area. I don't like when mechanics start swearing like that while working on my vehicle. The owner then comes out and apologizes (I'm thinking "What have you done!
) Seems there was a special type of bolt on the cross member or something. They sent me to another pro shop that installed it for free.
Last week, I removed those nerf bars. They were all the hell rusted out and I feared one of them would come loose while driving.
I purchased the chrome platinum series which I installed. It took me about two hours (Hey, I like to be precise and meticulous
) They do attach to the rocker panel but at two places but is reinforced by two brackets. I'm 225 pounds and stepped on one of them. I expected some component of the nerf bars to flex but to my knowledge they didn't. The truck dipped itself.
Oh and they look damn good too!
I love my Ford!!!

I went shopping today in anticipation of my truck being here soon. The Ziebart dealer I go to said they quit carrying Westin due to "quality issues" they now carry Manniks(spelling?) and Smitty Built. He was pushing the Manniks pretty hard, must be a bigger profit margin. I guess they mount to the frame only.
