They make Lightning style bumper cover for 97-98's. Check eBay, stylinconcepts, etc.

Or put in a 99-03 sytle grille and bumper and get a real L cover.

from what ive read that is a really expensive swap and requires a lot of parts to make it work. if i can get it all put together for under 500 then i will definately do it. i looked at the lightning bumper cover thats made for the 97-98 and i dont really like it. it just doesnt look right. are there any other bumpers i could look at.

If I were you, I'd buy the parts and switch your front end over to the 99 and up style. It won't cost you that much, and putting it all on is easy. I did it myself in under 2 hours alone. All you have to change is the bumper brackets, and the plug for the fog lights has to have a small notch cut in it. Thats it. If you change to the 99 and up style, you just buy the Lightning bumper cover and you're in business.

I'd stay away from the ones on ebay, they are all fiberglass. Truckperformance.com has the Street Scene on sale right now.

If you want to do the 99+ conversion, see if you can find a local aftermarket parts supplier.

I'm getting ready to buy an aftermarket bumper cover, and you say watch out for the fiberglass ones....Is there something wrong with fiberglass ones? I really don't know much about the difference in materials.

Also to answer a second question: Since they're called "bumper covers" do they actually cover your stock bumper or do they take the place of the stock bumper altogether? I'm going into this purchase blind and would like a little more info before I make my final decision.

Fiberglass will break, polyurethane will bend. The bumper cover mounts on top of the bumper. You could do the 99+ conversion w/ a L bumper cover for about a grand, probably a little under.
I just bought the 1st part for my conversion yesterday, a HD valance . The rest of it is gonna run about $300, less paint, grills, and fog lights.
