Angry windshield wiper arms

Those things look nasty thanks to the paint coming off. my windshield wipers are black and 2 shades of gray from being weather beaten.
Has anybody repainted theirs or put some kind of cover on them? i know there are billet wiper arm covers and those plastic neon pink ones, but I don't think neither is for me.

Flat black paint works great. Just slide the blades out, tape some newspaper down on the windshield and the all around the base of the wiper, then spray away (as evenly as possible). If they're in bad shape, let the first coat dry before applying more. It works great and they stay looking good if you keep 'em painted. High gloss paint looks bad and might reflect into your eyes. Just make sure to use flat black.

The dealer repainted mine under warranty, i will have to do it next time they start flaking but until then they look good again,
i had them do it at 35,000 so it would look good as long as possible after the warranty.

How about that bake on powder coating that you do in the oven. I saw it on one of those car shows recently on TNN? Small enough part to do so should be cheap. Anyone tried this? Anyone remember the manufacturer? I might have to experiment. Although I wish you hadden't mention this as no sooner did I see this thread I had to look and found mine the same way. Now it bothering me! All's I can say is we need to "get a life".

Cool

CPhillip: your bake in the oven idea remimded me of a stunt my husband pulled. This was quite a few years ago: I came home from work and found baking in my oven, the jugs from his harley motor. Yep, he'd taken the engine apart, sprayed the jugs w/black wrinkle paint and was cooking them!! Talk about an appetizing smell

Tina,
For some reason I get a feeling that we are alot alike!! Love the stories, esp. the doughnut/cop one a while back!

As for the wiper situation, considering that it doesn't rain much here, I simply took mine off and carry them under the seat in case it looks like rain! With the little amount of rain that we do get the rubber is **** by the time it rains anyway, so my blades last much longer also. Just an idea I thought I would pass around! Good luck!

That bake-on powder coating was covered on an episode of My Classic Car (seen on TNN). It is available from Eastwood Co., but you will have to buy the spray rig as well as the powder - it's probably cheaper to paint the wiper arms with high-temp grill paint them a couple of coats of sprayed clear lacquer (much cheaper and will last many years).

Ok, I will stick to meat loaf in mine and spray paint them.

Tina, Still no cracks? Me too! As your hubby would say "HO-RA"

Don't spray it on the truck, slid the little clip over and take them off to paint-em. The last thing you want is overspay on your truck
