Post Installation of Stull Billet Grill

Has anyone installed their Stull brand billet grill by themselves? I just receive mine, and the directions are crap, very confusing, and lame. Any help? Thanks.

Z71Killer,

I just installed the Stull grille on my truck a couple of weeks ago, so the pain is still fairly fresh.

My truck is the '97 4x2 so I had to cut the center plastic out all around. I found the easiest way to do this was to make a rough cut (within 1/4" of the edge) with a hacksaw blade. After I had removed the center of the grille, I used a Dremel tool with a small sanding drum attachment to clean the cut right up to the edge. This was very time consuming, but the edge came out very clean. After cutting the center out, it was just a matter of mounting the grille.

I have to admit, the install was a pain in the butt, once done though, the grille looks awesome . It's something I admire everytime I approach my truck.

Hope this helps. Stick with it, you will like the results.

Hey Guys~
I'm only 18 and I thought the install was fairly simple. The only problem I had was drilling the holes on the bumper insert . . . that was a pain in tha ***!!! Best luck to all . . .

J Rock- How did you get the bumper insert in? I tried for 2 hours and threw the thing down cursing. You have to hold the insert with the little grip you have, line it up, then mark the spot from the backside of the bumper brackets, cause that where the angle brackets go. Theres no room for your hands to work, it's a bitch plain and simple. I was tempted to contact stull. If you can help, thanks. What about the main grill? I have the 4x4, so do I still have to cut out the old grill?

Z71Killer~
Hey, as far as the main grill goes, you will still need to cut it out. Since I have the STX package, it originally came with the same egg-crate style grill as the 4x4's have. It has been over a year since I installed the Billet grills, so I don't exactly remember how I installed the bumper insert. I do know I had a friend hold it for me because I tried doing it alone and it was impossible. It seems like I marked the holes through the spaces in the grille and then drilled through the bumper opening(scratched a little paint off in the process). Since we have different bumpers, I'm not sure if the inserts are installed the same way. Hope this helps a little, if you have any other questions let me know . . .

Z71killer-

I did it!!! Installation complete!!!! It was a pain in the a@@!!

Ok let me start by saying the instructions blew!!!! Don't tell me how to do it, show me with pictures/drawings. I'm a man and don't read instructions, but I'll look at pictures/drawings. Once I understood what the instructions were actually wanting me to do it went pretty well. Untill I had to mark holes and hold the insert at the same time. That was kinda rough.

I also think the fastening hardware was kinda weak. They were like drywall screws and hex screws. I would've prefered machine screws, lock washers and nuts. (I could have provided those myself but I'm a loser).

I also reattached the Blue Oval with double sided tape. We'll see how long that lasts before it falls off or someone steals it.

Oh well, it's done and looks great!!

Loser1, I too installed both my grills today. (sat.) I took me and my dad to do the bumper insert, him holding it, and me marking it and drilling. What a bitch. I was tempted to call stull and and let them know what I thought about their stupid worthless instructions. As far as the main grill, it took about 3 hours, but damn, it looks trick. Again worthless directions, but I had a neighbor that knew the process pretty well. Talk to you soon in the chat room.
