scoop/ ram air...
scoop/ ram air...
ok here we go...
i got my mustang scoop in yesterday that i got off ebay for ~$90 shipped. i knew it was used. good deal i thought. when i got it i saw that it was the kind that have 2 clips in the front and the back is fastened with double sided tape. i wouldve been ok with this, but one of the clips was completey broken off and the other broke with just a little pressure.
now i was left with a scoop with nothing to keep in secure besides a strip of tape in the back. so i got to work with my dremel and "manufactured" some new clips:

i had to cut and bend the brakets and cut screws and lock nuts to get them to fit. i got it so that the screw heads laid flush with the scoop, and i took some polyurethane caulking and smoothed it over the best i could. paint time...
about as good as u can get with spray paint... u can still see the caulked areas but only if u're standing pretty close.

ok, performed surgery on my hood...
and installed the scoop. looks pretty good considering what i had to work with
ill try to get some better pics later.
ok ram air...
im not going to go into details of how it was built for fear of it being called the most ghetto thing ever =p. i will be changing things to work better so this is only temporary.
all the parts are from lowes. mostly air duct pieces and yes sleddogg, CHROME FLEX HOSE! hahahha

ok
i will be keeping most of these parts as they worked pretty well.
i jus need to addjus were the piece attaches to the hood as i couldnt get a good seal the way it is and am losing air pressure there.
chrome flex hose!!!!!!!
i removed the aire box from its rubber mounts so that i could position the "flex hose" around it. I then hooked it to the old opening where the airbox originally got its are from the wheels well.
I temporarily sealed up the whole i had cut for the old air box mod, but i will be fixing this.
Now it does work ok. the hose recoils pretty good when the hood is closed. but its jus too cheap and im gonna think of a different way to do it. i might try to find a rubber hose the will coil around the airbox like this one does. but i might give up on trying to keep it all connected even with the hood open. GOODBYE FLEX HOSE!
it does suck the air thru the scoop but as isaid it leaks around the elbow and around the hood opening.
any way thats about it.
phew

Yeah, I've finally figured out how I'm going to do the ram air! My way is awesome!
1 - Roof Flashing
1 - Rubber Dryer Flex hose
actually, that's as far as I've gotten. I can see it in my head though

I wanted the shortest smoothest route getting the air in.
If you need ideas how to secure that scoop well, go to my gallery, under mods, I made mine removeable for cleaning out the bugs and waxing.
If you deside to change the system let me know, sure I could find the parts local to build another.
One thing for sure, I have a K&N and found I have to clean it about every 4k now, I have 7k on my system now.
The truck is looking sweet though, like that color. Keep us informed on the progress, I might change mine if it is something better.

anyhow, heres mine all cleaned up, also found a good spot for one of the 5.4 decals. Looks better than putting the old F150 emblem under there.
Sled...
thx sleddogg,
yes urs is definitely much cleaner looking. im definitely goin to be changing my around.
i wish i could make my scoop more removeable, but i got stuck with one with no cips or anything
i think it may be some 35th anniversary edition or some crap like that. it came with the plastic honey comb insert in the front. I thought it would allow air to pass through but it was a solid piece. after taht i realized it was made to be non=functional and thats how they could get away with using double sided tape to hold down the back.
i fastened mine with new tape, but after going 80-90 a couple times, i found that it is lifting a little in the rear and letting air through.
now im gonna have to stick a bolt and washer through the back to keep it down
oh well i do have an idea of what im going to do to improve the ram air, now i just have to locate the parts. ill post some pics when i get it finished.
oh ya and felt paper racing stripes
sled, do u do roofing?

smok][n,
I dont do roofing exclusively, but am a licensed builder. I have a side business of building decks, but can do all contractor work. I also have a regular job at a silicon chemical plant.
as far as the scoop goes, sounds like you may have to bite the big one and buy one from Ford. I heard the run about the same as you payed for that crap scoop. Your scoop is the same as mine. Just looks like someone ground off the lip that should be on each side when it was modified.
Might be able to find a radiator shop that can weld plastic and see if they could repair or build some clip mounts. Now that I have my chip, I have been up to around 120mph and have no lift. I heard even the ones that use the front clips and locating pin to mount can still lift at the corners.
Not sure where you are from, but I have seen a couple stangs with scoops showing up in junk yards around here, might find a deal on one that way.
Good luck with whatever you do.

HI!... I still have one left but it's missing the rear plastic mounting *NIPPLE*. Besides that it's perfectly in A-1 shape. Mine still has the side mounting flap. E-mail me if your interested.
