Hey Steve thanks for the input

The biggest question I have regarding using vinyl is whether or not it'd go on smoothly over that aftermarket hood....I've never worked with vinyl ever, so I'm not sure how it is really applied, but to me it'd seem liked it would get wrinkles around those scoops?

Maybe you can clarify the application a little for me? If you want to take the discussion offline, feel free to email me at buckfu2@yahoo.com

Thanks again.

It all depends on the experiance of the instaler. I have wrapped entire cars and trucks with Scotch Print digital printed graphics and hardly get any problems with wrinkles but I also have been putting this stuff on for 10+ years. The same graphics on a stock hood should be pretty easy to do. The aftermarket one would be a chore but possible. Would definatley recomend putting the sides on first to ge familliar with the material. I see the problem not being getting it in around the scoops as much as the rise of the scoop where it goes up from the factory shape. The sides of the opening back to the windshield.

Let me know if you have any other questions about it. The idea looks great!

Ultimatley the best route would be to get it painted on but would be $$$. I could probably get the entire set to your door for less than a tank of gas.

Hmmm... less than a tank of gas, eh? I know gas keeps creaping up, kinda like bad underwear, but still... The best I've found so far would be $150, and that seemed to be pretty good from the others... I've still got the stock hood, so mine wouldn't be a big problem...

I'm not so much worried about the cost of paint, just that paint is pretty much perminant (however it's spelled), and I know there's a chance of fading, but vinyl could still be removed...

Could you get it in a metallic color close to Dark Shadow Gray?

Yep we have 3M high performance 220 series vinyl in Dark metalic gray. I can beat that price by quite a bit!

thanks for the extra info Steve....As Closer9 said, if you can produce a set of stripes for the front, hood, cab, tonneau, backend and rocker panel areas, I'd be interested in purchasing a set. It'd give me something to work with until I actually got the hood. Hell, I might end up liking it so much I wouldn't get the hood!

Shoot me an email at buckfu2@yahoo.com and we can discuss price and what you need for getting the dimensions, length, etc...whatever you'd need to produce the stripe kit.

Unhappy I might have found a problem for me.....

well StickerSteve, I went out and as I was measuring my truck, I think I may have realized 2 things that may prevent me from doing this

1) The cab roof on the Screw has those channels for strength, unlike the Scabs and such which are smooth. I know you said that vinyl could be layed down over surfaces like this, but I cannot see it laying perfectly when each of the 2 ralley stripes would cover two of these channels:

This may force me to look into painting the stripes.

2) The rocker panel area. Again on the Screws they have an accent line that runs the length of this area. If I were to put the vinyl on top of that, the "F150" text would end up looking wobbly due to the curve in the surface. I could move the entire stripe up above it, but it'd leave a large black area running the length of the rocker panel, under the silver stripes.

Seeing as how I'm having the fender flares painted black, and would have to have the rocker panel painted black before applying the silver vinyl stripes, I think that I'm going to have to go that route, instead of the more cost effective vinyl stripes. I'm just not so happy with the idea of leaving a couple inches of black underneath the stripes (either way they're put on) because of that accent line in the rocker panel.....maybe stripes weren't meant for the screw....

Unless somebody can think of a work-around these two things?

Well, just a suggestion... What if you made the side ones so that the F150 sat right on top the crease in the door, and then put your lower strip down below the crease, then you might still have a small black area below, but I don't think it would be too bad. You might see what you can do with PS using the pic you just posted...

Also, I'm wondering if I do this if I really want to mess with doing the roof anyway. It's high enough it doesn't get seen, and I've got my Sirius antenna up there... Not really sure what to do... It would make it look more "finished"... hmmm...

well, I think what I will do is on the rocker panel, just move everything above that accent line....the old GT350s are like that, so I dont' think it'd be much of a big deal.

on the roof, I think I'll actually cut out the areas of the channels so that the vinyl would go around them instead of over them. I'm working on a template right now, to we'll see how it turns out.

not the most perfect solution but like you said, nobody's tall enough to see the roof of a 4x4 truck anyway
