Front Plate Holder Removal

I was trying to take the front liscene plate holder off of my brother-in-laws Expidition last night and it looks like the bottom part is held on by some type of plastic push pin...no problem. But the top brackets look like they are attached by 2 hefty rivets?

Has anybody gotten their front plate holder off without actually breaking it?

Thks,
chknbone

What year is it? If it is a '99 or newer you may have to take off the lower valance (air dam). It's held on with some small bolts. pretty easy to do. I did it to change my bumper. Should take adout 30 min.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Seems like a lot of trouble just to get a simple plate holder off.

And why would/did they use a rivet instead of some type of screw? I wish my clutch master cylinder had been designed as "Ford Tough" as this liscene plate holder was!

I used a trim removal tool to remove the splash guard behind the bumper, then used the same tool to remove the rivets from behind... Worked great, no scratches...

Mine broke so I had to cut it off to finally remove it. However here in Calif. it is required by law to run a front plate so you may want to check local law in your area. So I drilled to holes in my brush guard bent the heck out of the plateto get it to conform over the front bumper and put it back on. No need to get pulled over for that.

We don't have to have the front plate here in NC. This is just a typical case of the grass being greener on the other side.

My truck doesn't have the plate holder so of course I want one. I'm sure if it had one when I bought it (used) I would be taking it off.

I just took my 4 inch grinder and reached through the front of the bumper and ground off the top of the rivets
