supercrew amped head units

The supercrew head units with the single disk in dash have an external amplifier right? So what problems does this pose with adding a line level convertor? Do I have to splice after the amped signal? Should I be safe and splice the wire at or near the doors to make sure that they are amped or does it not matter. I have two plugs in the back of my head unit and I do not know if I should add the converter their. Has anyone done this?

Hi chicagoford,

Dunno about the Screws, but my '01 Scab has the single CD in-dash "premium" radio (sqaure buttons, not very round). I had the same question, so I emailed Visteon. The reply I got was the unit is an 80-watt internally amplified (20x4 peak, not RMS). No external anything. Today, I am having my Sony 60x4 RMS installed. They will be pushing Polk EX572a's. Ought to be interesting to hear how it sounds. Letcha know!

The Screws do NOT have an external amp. There is no problem adding in a line level converter. Actually you had emailed me asking about my installation in my 2001 Screw. I am just getting rid of my Visteon Mach MP3 unit and line level converter to step up to a DVD player. I have never had any problems with my current setup at all.
