installing amp behind rear seats - SuperCrew

Hi there,

I purchased a Kenwood KAC859 amp and I will want to mount it behind my rear seat, behind the plastic 'wall'. Has anyone installed an amp here? and if so, I'd really like to hear from you on how you did it.

yes

Yes I did mount a small rockford fosgate amp behind the driver's side rear seat in the storage space that is back there. I didn't permanently mount it ie screw it into the metal portion of the cab, I just let it sit back there because I just can't let myself drill a hole in this new beautiful truck. It works fine running from the factory deck, but it only powers a subwoofer, that's it.

I have the exact same amp in my screw running four door speakers and a 10" sub. It sits freely behind the wall in passenger side compartment. I didn't want to "mount it" to anyhing. I got the door closed, the amp doesn't shift, but I did move the jack to the otherside.

Hope this helps

Check out the amp here

i did this once. take out one the seats and make a bracket to mount the amp that is small enough to fit under the seat yet big enough to reach the seat mounts to bolt it down but leave room to remount the seats that way you dont have to drill or let it bounce around freely in the back

just an idea

Sean,

I took a look at your pic of your amp...does it sit open like that all the time? just curious, I'm planning on 'standing it up' and installing it behind that plastic cover.

How do you like the amp, and which sub did you choose? I just bought a polk 10"...Crutchfield had em 2 for one...so I'll sell one off if I can

Thanks again for the info.

I stood mine up too. The amp actually sits in the compartment with the door closed behind the plastic cover. You'll even be able to lock it. But if you want to put the amp on the passenger side, you'll have to move the jack somewhere. There's plenty of room back there and with the matting and amps weight, you won't have to worry about it sliding from side if you chose to let it sit freely.

I like the amp a lot. I never wanted to shake the neighbors' windows but just get little more thump to my music. It's got plenty of power and when you listen to it you know it's not stock. That's all I really wanted. You'll enjoy the sound. It's hooked up to a kenwood 10" I bought off a buddy of mine. I'm thinking of getting a new one some time in the near future.

Good luck

I've got my amp in the storage behind the drivers side rear seat. You can screw the amp with a couple of short fat screws right into the carpet that lines the back wall. The screws tangle into the carpet fibres and hold well enough to keep the amp from tipping if you mount it vertically. I put the plastic cover back on and have no overheating probs. It runs a 10" subwoofer that's under the rear seat.

hey Braboin, Check out my album which has the amp rack mounted to the wall behind the rear seat. I used existing threaded factory holes to mount the rack board. I constructed a metal support to anchor the bottom of the rear seat to & give it more incline angle. The top of the rear seat is just a 2 x 8 board covered in ozite sub-woofer box matl.
I built my first sub box out of cardboard as a proto to get it exact & perfect. Boss Lariat

I have a JBL p80.4 installed behind the right side panel behind the back seat it fits perfect. It's mounted on the cab wall.

Got to the following thread for pictures...

Talking

I have two amps ( a Planet Audio 2002, and an MTX 2100) mounted under my seat nestled against a half farad capaciter....
that took some figuring out, but it works out well since I only have a single cab!

Hey Sean Harris

I just got my truck back from having the amp installed. they got it in the passenger rear compartment like yours, but the door won't close -

I haven't had a chance to fuss with it yet, but it is in there horizontally, but the locking mechanism for the compartment door buts up against the amp. Hopefully I can take the cover off and shift the amp around to fit better. *EDITED IN -->* I see he mounted the amp on a 3/4 in. thick piece of wood, which accounts for the spacing issue...I took the cover off the compartment and everything is ok. I would have to take the wood out to make it fit....I probably wont fuss with it till summer.

If you have any helping hints to get it to fit, I'd appreciate it. Right now it's really close to the cover surface, and it concerns me of heating problems.... Hope I can fix this. Thanks again for everyone's input.

BTW, I like the amp! Don't have the sub in yet, but definitely a difference.
