Lost on amps

I want to get a MTX amp and eventually get MTX thunderforms to hook up to it. However, i am completely lost on amps. How are they installed? I see people with all these wires coming out of them what the hell? What exactly do they do? Like i said above, i am completely lost on this so any info will help.

Basically an amp takes an audio signal and makes it bigger, enough to drive the speakers.

All the wires you see on the amp
+ to batttery
- to ground
remote turn on (usaually blue)
speaker outputs
RCA inputs

Speaker outputs and RCA inputs will vary depending on the number of inputs the amp has (mono, 2ch, 4ch, 5ch)

I am a real fan of MTX subs and amps. I haven't used the thunderform myself, but have heard it and its hard to beat the price on it. If you do go with the thunderform, I would use a 2ch amp and run it in its bridged mono mode.

I'm not a big fan of MTX subs, but I am running an MTX 81000d mono block amp. I am pushing a Polk Momo 12 with that and it sounds great. Just to let you know, I replaced my Soundstream Reference Class A 10.0 with the MTX 81000d. The Soundstream didn't output enough power at the impedance I was running. However, the Soundstream is a better overall amp. I am selling it by the way.
