It has been brought to my attention that the premium factory stereo systems MAY have a factory amp. The question is where would the amp be hiding at? Anyone been there done that???

I had the "premium" CD player in my '00 sCab, and I didnt notice any external amps, but the thing did generate a lot of heat for a factory HU, so they may be talking about the internal one. I dont know what the power rating is, but it cant be too much. regardless, if you're going to change it out, its not very difficult w/ the proper harness, tools, etc. -just a standard factory stereo pull.
