Im trying to get my system together, and Ive never really understood the whole thing with the Ohm's and all that technical stuff.

Can someone try to give a simple explanation as to how that works.

I recall having amps bridged in the past where I have used the L - and the R + of the amp, for one sub..

 

Ohm's is resistance (DC) or impedance (AC and audio). The smaller the number the lower the impedance and the higher the current your amp will need to provide. If the amp cannot handle the higher current demand it will turn off (protection mode). Before it turns off it will most likely sound like crap. Get some idea of what you want to install and we can help you from there.

if u want a system im trying to sell my system i have a jl audio w7 12" with ported box. and jl audio mono block class d amp 1000/1 v2 and is designed for the sub. 4ohms is what its at but the amp is able to adjust by itself. bought the amp for 1200 and sub for 700 and box for 400. selling for 750 used for bout 3months

 

Ok, Here is what the setup is going to look like for now. I currently have it wired using the L+ R- to the one sub.

Also Where should I have the gain and frequency on the amp ??



Head Unit: Stock Ford 6 Disc



Sub: 1 JL Audio 10w3V3-4 Ported Enclosure 500 watt at 4ohm.



Amp: Rockford Fosgate Punch P8002

2-channel car amplifier
200 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (400 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)
800 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
variable high-pass/low-pass crossover (40-400 Hz, 12 dB/octave)
variable remote Punch Bass boost (0-18 dB at 45 Hz)

 

ok gain is power. dont max it out overpowering is bad underpower is fine. just go half up the amp. what is the subs RMS do u know. if its over 400. then dont put the gain up all the way. gain is the power the amp puts out remember that. i never max out any amp for safegaurding

you have to tune the amps gain and freq to what sounds good in your truck. what works for one truck can be totally different for another.

Id recommend downloading a bass cd off the net somewhere and using that to help you tune.

 

Gain is to match the output of your source unit to the input of the amp. It should be adjusted properly and not be used as a volume control. Find where your source starts to clip or cut off the bass as some stock units do to protect the speakers and turn the volume to just below that point. Now adjust the gain until the amp clips and then set it just below that point. Ideally it would be done with test tones and a scope but you can do it by ear as well. Be aware you could damage your speakers if you are not paying attention.

 

right its not used for a sound control if u want sound control get a bass **** or an equilizer. and do it the right way

 

and a bass **** will let you turn it down when you dont want the thump

 

I actually just got a Kenwood KVT-717 head unit, and I want to put (2) 10" subs in my truck. I'm not looking for 12s to rattle the neighborhood, I just want 10s because I actually found a nice box that's built for the supercrews that holds (2) 10s. honestly, I used to have a pontiac torrent with the pioneer sound package that came with a stock 8 that sounded pretty nice. I'd even be happy with (2) 8s, but I haven't seen any boxes like that. I just want to know what kind of AMP I should look for if these are the subs I want to buy? Thanks in advance

 

I have the Rockford bass **** that comes with the amp. I have it set to where if I lower the bass ****, I can barely hear the sub, but it's there when I want it.

I have a 13W7 with the same amp and it tore my '98 Expedition up!!!! I sold the Expedition and jammed all that into a junky '99 Sunfire (work car) and became the definition of "His stereo is worth more than his car!". They'll hear you coming a mile away!

BTW - My setup is almost 5 years old and still performing like new! 3 Months old is nothing!
