Sundevil2188's Build Thread

Alright, so, im finally starting to get some serious stuff done...aka finally got tired of looking at my amp sitting in my box along with all the other goodies, so here it goes.

2001 Lariat Supercrew
Whats already installed...

Pioneer AVIC N3 with Ipod control
Infinity Kappa 680.9cs (fronts)
Infinity Kappa 682.9cf (rears)

The front comps were hastily done on my lunch break at work...crossovers are ziptied up in the kicks and the tweeters are mounted right next to the speaks.

Heres whats going in in the next wave...
Infinity 475a
2 Rockford 4 Gauge Power Kits
2 Rockford Dual-Shield RCA's (3rd added when I do the sub amp)
2 Rockford Disto Blocks
Dynamat (just the back wall for now)

I'll be making a custom amp rack against the back wall. The 4 channel will be on the drivers side, the sub amp (either a Infinity 1300 or 1600) will be going on the passenger side. The crossovers will be relocated to the back wall and mounted in the center with the distro blocks. I will also be mounting the tweeters into the leather panel that the door handle is in.

Also going in will be a Viper 5902 Remote Start/Keyless/Alarm with some goodies...Window up down module (just the fronts), dual zone motion, battery back up, piezos, dual LED's, and a few other tricks. I wont document too much of this part for obvious reasons.

I also am in the process of the interior/exterior LED swap. On that front, so far the Dome lights, door lights, 3rd brake light, plate lights, and AC controls are done. I got the LED's the other day to do the cluster with...and also am getting a "patman" cluster...more info on this later. So stay tuned for pics of the process...

Some of todays work...ripped out the back panel, and the carpet.

6 speakers in a super crew? These are hidden at the bottom of the C-pillar...I had no idea they were there.

More to come....

OMGzorz no way!!!

If you can get a sweet deal on a RF 360.2 (since I see you mention them often) I could hook you up with some high quality used separates for a true SQ setup. Perfect for your 4 channel.

Either way, at least you are getting things done unlike me! :o

No more sweet deals....Effective beginning of this month, Best Buy is no longer partnering with Rockford Fosgate They decided to focus solely on the mom and pop scene...which means they wont be around much longer seeing as Best Buy pretty much kept them afloat. In aprilish, when we start getting the new product lines in, we will be picking up Kicker and Polk. Pretty excited about that...Kicker should bring in a lot of buisness with their huge following.

Besides...10 year old daily driver...meh. No real need to get all crazy, especially since im still learning with every step. Next setup will probablly be active maybe a 3 way set up with some custom kicks. I gotta learn how to glass before I get into that though...maybe for my mustang. I know you disagree, but I like the way the kappas sound now, so im sure they'll come alive with some more power going to them. Pretty excited to finally be doing this...

Yeah I heard about RF. I saw a press release from their owner, and to me it sounded like he didn't like RF's name being associated with BB. Rockford used to make some of the best equipment in the business, and their reputation for quality has gone down quite a bit. I believe they are trying to re-organize and get back into the high quality scene which is awesome. Can they pull it off in today's market? Time will tell, but as you said it wont be easy.

No problem man, I've met many people who like the Infinity stuff. I'm sure you'll like them a lot more with extra power, headroom works wonders for quality sound. I'm no professional either, just a DIYer. Hell I have no 12v affiliation or any kind of MECP certification. Although I think I could probably pass the test.

I'll be fiberglassing for the first time here shortly too. Gonna glass my new (to me) tweeters into the pillars.

Do I hear Employee cost on discontinued items. Some crazy deals should fall in your lap. My bro tells me about some of the stuff he gets for stupid prices.

ya ive seen that before on mine, not very good spot for a speaker since it would be aimed into the bottom of the back seat, but cool none the less. I haven't confirmed this but i believe the Harleys, KR and Lariats that have the "premium" sound have all 6 speakers but i could be wrong, its just a hunch.

Cluster is going out today for sure, sorry i didnt get it out sooner.

Todays update

So went to the depot and got some MDF today. They sold smaller pieces that were 49'' x 24" for like 8 bucks. I kept the 49" measurement, and cut it in half for a height of 12". Unfortuneatly, the part where my rack is mounting isnt double paneled like it is in the NBS trucks, so the screws for the board poke through the back about 1/4''. I plan on sealing them with some silicone, but since I only get about 5 inches of rain a year, leaks should be few and far between, if at all. Anyway, on to the pictures (sorry if they suck they are from my phone)...
New product...Dynamat and RCA's...

Doesnt chip look like a tool? LOL....
The board...amps and distro blocks are mounted 3'' from the bottom of the board, and 3'' from the sides. (im extremely **** about symmetry, especially in this type of work).

Real 4 gauge...

Dynamat going in, will do the top section at a later date...

And finally, the board mounted in the truck...

Some pics of the custom overlay...the six gauges will be pure white, with the rest of the lights being blue. I figure the bright blue LED's will overpower the red and yellow thats left on the face, just like it did in my AC controls.
Stock...
