What is better?

Amp at 1/2 gain and receiver offset set to 0 or Amp at 0 gain and receiver offset set to 3/4.

With the receiver at 0, the amp gain should be level matched to your head unit's MUO (maximum undistorted output). From there, you can use the receiver if you want more or less bass during certain songs.

Why 3/4? My head unit doesn't distort until ~56/60 on the volume....

Have always done it that way. If you go all the way up there is no more room for potential..... I have mine tuned to 47 on the volume...
