Amp wont power up!
Amp wont power up!
Hey guys, a buddy of mine gave me the system out of his truck that he is selling. I'm having a couple issues getting things to work though. We both tried trouble shooting things today, but nothing good came of that. haha, maybe you guys will be better help!
I have a Kenwood head unit, 2 10" Bassworx subwoofers, and a 1200watt Bassworx amp. Now, the previous owner did all the wiring in my truck, but I followed it all and it all seems to be correctly ran.
-4 Gauge red cable ran directly from the battery, 4 Gauge white ran to the floor where it is grounded.
-2 sets of 3 blue wires. They are ran to the back of the deck, where they plug in. 2of3 I figure must plugin to the amp, but they have no plugs, just stripped wire. And the 3of3 must be the remote.

But I'm having troubles getting my amp to simply power up. Fuses are all good, and everything is grounded correctly. The only thing is those blue wires only have plugs on the one end, for the headunit, and the remote wires don't have a spot to plugin behind the headunit. I'm rather confused here haha.
I went out and bought new audio cables though, the ones that go from the headunit to the amp. And I got some "high performance" speaker wire, for the amp to sub part of things. But still nothing. I don't have the remote cable hooked up however, as I cannot find a place for it to connect into behind the headunit.
I hope that makes some sense to someone haha. Thanks in advance!

Well I believe the remote wires is a 12v feed that turns the amp on so just get a wire and go from the battery to the amp and see if that works. If of does then you know your amp is good. When there ain't a remote wire in the back of the head unit, people sometimes tap of the feed to the headunit itself or go to the fuse panel. You just gotta find a 12v feed that is hot only when your ignition is on .
Thanks for the comments guys! Helped alot haha. Basically I just took everyone'd advice and spliced the remote wire into the ignition wire on the deck. Worked like a charm! Here's the end result.

Pretty ghetto, but I plan on building some kind of box or something to cover the amp.

Ive seen plenty of amps in enclosed spaces that work just fine. And if its really that big of an issue, its not that hard to incorporate a small computer fan into the box to keep air moving over the amp.

Haha, well turns out I've got ANOTHER problem with my amp.
It keeps heating up to extreme temperatures, like too hot to touch, and then my subs will cut out for a good 5 minutes. I'm not really sure what could be causing this! Any help is appreciated!
Thanks guys.
