Question Crossover Levels?

What do the crossover levels do on amps? As you set the number higher, what does this adversly do? Is there a general rule or setting to go with?
All info is appreciated?
Thanks

The crossover level is the point at which the crossover will start to decrease the signal going through to the speakers. This will depend on if your crossover is set for high-pass (only allowing high frequencies to pass) or low-pass(only letting low freqs pass). If you are using a low-pass and increase the freq from say 80Hz to 150Hz, the sub will then play up to and a little over the 150Hz area. The crossover does not stop the amp from playing above 150Hz, but tapers it off above that. If you have the crossover set for high pass, the amp will taper of the low freqs going to smaller speakers the same way.
Hope this helps.

Cool

The tapering he's referring to is the crossover slope. It is also adjustable on alot of amps. I don't really know what mine is set to, I just adjust it til it sounds best. You can hear when it's too high, and you don't get a whole lot of sound when it's too low.
