F250 Amp/sub install
I am wanting to add a sub and amp to my stock stereo system (AM/FM/Cass/CD). The amp will be used just to drive the sub (250 watts into 10" MTX Blue Thunder), and all other connections will remain stock. I would prefer to do the install myself, but not sure of the right way to get the stereo out of the dash to get everything connected. Anyone have any tips who has been down this road before?
Thanks,
Jeff

Another question: with the factory "premium" system, didn't that already include an amp? If so, will the factory head unit have any RCA preouts available to add an amp to drive the sub???
Go to Crutchfields web site. If there is an adapter then Crutchfield sells it.

I call the other day I they told me there is no adapter for the Premium F150 system. But call them anyway since they can explain you in detail the available alternatives.
Good luck.
Good luck.
If the factory unit does have an amp, there probably is not RCA jacks on the deck. Most stock systems use Molex connectors for the stock amp and speaks. You need to find out the wiring color codes to know which wires go to the speaks. If your amp has high-level(speaker level) inputs, run wire from them to the speaker outputs of one pair. Such as the fronts. If you don't have the high-level inputs, get an adapter that converts the speaker output wires to RCA. I have done this on quite a few trucks and cars myself because many owners don't want to give up factory options or change the factory look.
LOL, premium sound, uh ya right!. I dont know what you have, but i have a 2000 Lightning with "premium sound", and its a Sanyo system.
Now in my mind, there are no "premium" Sanyo car audio systems, that i am aware of. If you have what i do, no, there are no RC out, you have to use converters sold in any car sound shop. Go there and tell them what you are doing, they will help, usually, or go elsewhere. You'll be buying more no doubt.
No there is no amp in your stock system, please, it sux, LOL...again, if its like mine, am/fm/cass/cd changer.
I did have a Lincoln Mark VIII and the JBL system was pretty nice, but barely premium, this truck sound sucked, before
it's getting better. I am doing a good head unit last, as you can see in my sig, i think. I cant say enough about the JL components and amp, the amp is amazing, but not cheap. The other JL speakers and sub are also premo for me, not too much thump.
