I need some help tuning my amp to new sub

right now i have a alpine v12 MRD-M1005 amp powering a single 2ohm kicker cvt 12inch(400rms),now i dont want to blow my sub once again (was a shallow 12inch pioneer),i dont a have a cap or crossover ,anyways. how do i set all these settings on the amp? so that i dont blow the sub

on the amp there are 3 switches:

crossover frequency **** with 30hz to 200hz adjustment
lowpass filter slope selector switch with 12db/oct or 24db/oct selections
subsonic mode selector switch with ,off,15hz and 30hz selections

on the digital readout gauge there is the following settings:

amp i.d-i know it should be set a 1
input(gain) level (0.1v to 8v)
bass eq adjustment (zero to +16)

i would def appriciate some help with this crap, thanks in advance

Subsonic filter only matters if you're ported. If you are, set it at the same freq or a little bit lower than your box is tuned to. Leave bass eq at 0, put the crossover wherever you think it sounds good (probably somewhere between 80-120, same with crossover slope..

The only thing you need to worry about blowing your sub is gain (unless you're ported--subsonic filter also).. To set it-

1- Turn gain all the way down
2- Put in a cd that you are very familiar with and turn volume up as loud as you ever listen to it (make sure its not distorting, this is usually around 3/4 volume)
3- Slowly turn gain up on amp until sub starts distorting or it doesn't get any louder, then turn it back until it starts to get quieter or stops distorting..

Thats the quick and easy way, make sure you know what to listen for though.

Are you using the factory head unit or aftermarket? Are you powering the door speakers with an amp? I'm not sure I can give you the best advice on any of this, but I would anticipate others that can would need to know a little more information about your system.

Ok. I have an Alpine Mrp- M450 amp pushin 2 rockford P2s sealed. I understand how to set the gain I just want to know what the Bass EQ and LP Filter do. I just want to get the deepest I can out of these sealed subs. Thanks in advance, Brent

Bass eq= bass boost, leave it off. Low Pass filter lets all frequencies lower pass through. Set it wherever sounds good.. 80 hz would be a good place to start experimenting.

I want these as loud as they can be to keep up with my highs. Right now I have the bass eq up all the way and its right were I want it. What would be the benifits of having it off? I understand the LP filter now. Thanks

Bass boost (in higher amounts) sends a clipped signal to your subs. When speakers try to play clipped signals, they distort, and eventually die. I'd be really surprised if your subs aren't distorting like hell with the volume up loud.
