have subs - now which amp?

i have 2 Rockford Fosgate 8" subs, 150w rms, 4ohm single voice coil each. now i dont know what type of amp setup would be best for these. do i use a mono amp and wire it to both, or a two channel? series or parallel? and how many watts should the amp be? obviously i am not looking to blow the doors off, just to get some good sound.

thanks!

with an amp, u get what u pay for, so if u buy a wallmart 99 dollar amp, thats what it will sound like, a good amp figure a dollar a watt. its all in what your listening needs are, will u upgrade door speakers? will u amp those? whats the budget, alot of questions u need to answer for yourself first. then decide, with subwoofers a class d mono amp is more efficient,u get more power with using less current.

thanks for the reply. maybe i was not clear on my question. i am not looking for a specific amp, just which numbers i should be looking for in an amp. how many watts, how many channels, etc...

i know a two channel amp will work for my subs when it says 150w x 2 channels @ 4 ohms. but is this the best setup to use? what kind of wattage should i look for if i go with a mono amp (or is this even an option)?

i am trying to figure out the criteria to look for as i begin shopping for my amp.

thanks again!!

everyone likes different things as far as amps go, i personally like jl amps, of course some on here will say u can get better for less money, i have only seen better for more money, like the very high end special amps that u dont hear much of.. use a mono amp, 1 channel if u can, if each speaker rms is 150, then get a 300 to 500 watt, so u have some head room without clipping the amp. always wire svc subs in parallel. on a mono amp, 2 speakers in parellel is 2 ohms. which model fosgates are they? amp style is very diverse. what is your budget?

now THAT is the kind of info i was looking for!
i dont know the model number off hand, i will have to look at the boxes at home. as far as budget, i guess i will figure that out once i start looking at prices vs features. i would say i would like to stay middle of the road, price-wise. i listen to alot of metal, not cranked up REAL loud (6 bars on the factory cd player is about the loudest i go, if the windows are down), and i just want a better sound than the factory speakers. i plan to keep the factory head unit for now (until i can afford a dvd player, which may be a while...).

i have 4 mtx 6x8's i got from ebay for the doors, and a cheapy Dual 4 channel amp to use on those to bump up the factory signal a little.

sounds like ur just trying to get a little more sound. no too pricey or over the top. see what u can find in a 400.1 amp, online carstereo is good priced, same with dealercostcaraudio.com. maybe just get a rockford amp to match the speakers, they are moderately priced,

thats exactly it, nothing fancy. so if i wire the subs in parallel, it will split the watts between them? ie, 400w amp will give 200w to each sub?

btw, the subs are RF P1S48 subs...

thanks for the info!

yes. thats full gain on the amp. of course u wont have it clipped. go with a class d amp. it will pair nicely with the subs..
also series wiring is mainly for dvc subs so dont even worry bout that, with a mono amp run a speaker wire from one to the next, and one up to the amp..
